Looking at last year’s Sky Bet Championship predictions – We got Cardiff City so wrong

When you make predictions at the start of the season, it is a great time to feel smug as you feel like you know everything.

But then the season happens and it turns out that everything you think is wrong. And one thing we think is unfair is how we try and forget those predictions and act like they never happened.

Not us though. It’s time to go back and look at my predictions at the start of last season and compare them to now. And then we can all have a good laugh at how wrong I was.

Here is a link to see my original predictions.

Predicted Top Half of the Table

Middlesbrough
Aston Villa
Derby County
Fulham
Reading
Sheffield Wednesday
Wolves
Norwich City
Birmingham City
Brentford
Hull City
Leeds United

Actual Championship Top Half

Wolves
Cardiff City
Fulham
Aston Villa
Middlesbrough
Derby County
Preston North End
Millwall
Brentford
Sheffield United
Bristol City
Ipswich Town

You know something, I think I can be pretty proud of that. I got four of the final top six which I think is pretty decent. Admittedly they are in the wrong order, but I’ll take that any day of the week. Obviously I got Wolves wrong. I thought that they would take a long time to get going and the exact opposite happened. I also thought that Nuno Espirito Santo would get sacked and I was dead wrong about that.

The other thing I got wrong was that I thought the likes of Millwall, Sheffield United and Bristol City would be at the other end of the table. And we’ll get to that now…
