OT Tax Rebates-Claims Mangnt Co

Wed May 30, 2018 12:25 pm

Anyone ever been to one of these type of Advisors and, acted upon a Rebate of Tax due. ?

The one I was claiming through wanted 28% + VAT to get me the money to my account.

On a fund of £3172.80 its quite a lot to give up, on all my work over the past 4 years!

So, I dealt directly with HMRC and, they sent me a cheque for the full amount.

Now, the claims people are saying I'm owing them for the work they did for me and want their 28% + VAT.

Anyone else think these people ought to be taking as much as they do and had any similar experiences with them?

I'm not going to give them a penny of what I worked for by the way.

Sounds like they did the work to find out what it was owed, and he cut them out at the end because it was a lot to lose :laughing6:

It is a lot, but if you agreed for them to do it and signed to that effect, that would be what you owe them ?

If they hadn't done the work and found out that you were due £3172, you wouldn't have had anything?

If you signed a contract they will probably pursue you for the money you owe them for the work they did, although I agree it's a lot of money for filling in a few forms !!!

If you signed the agreement for the 28% and they did some work for you you will probably have a fight on your hands as these types of firms don't normally take no for an answer. As the amount due is around £1,000 its worth their while chasing it if they are confident they have a case. On the other hand they may be trying it on. If you signed something and they started work on it but you then decided to take over you could make them a "without prejudice" offer to pay for the time they spent.

It was all done online...so I guess I signed something...the figure they quoted me as "net figure" was significantly lower than what HMRC sent me in a Calculation.

I'm no Einstein but its a lot the comparison is quite wide between the HMRC and them.

Check what you signed/agreed online, it was probably 28% of your refund in which case that's what you owe. You could try and say you will give then 28% of what they said you would receive? I doubt they will accept it though if you have agreed to 28% of any refund.

A bit gutting as it's two minutes work putting figures in a few boxes probably. You have probably overpaid in other years that the company wasn't aware of and this has been noticed with the return.

Look on the positive side though, your 72% is also significantly higher than you were expecting
