The 23-year-old is likely to be moving on from the Stadium of Light following Sunderland's relegation to League One

Cardiff City are reportedly leading the chase for Sunderland's Didier Ndong this summer, despite apparent interest from French giants Lyon.

The midfielder is destined to leave the Stadium of Light before the start of the season following Sunderland's relegation to League One, and reports in Gabon suggest he is being lined up for a move to South Wales.

Ndong arrived on Wearside as the club's record signing back in 2016, but was loaned out to Watford in January,

But the 23-year-old was given little chance to shine in Hertfordshire, and failed to make a single first team appearance for the Hornets before returning to the north east.

Sunderland now look destined to sell the former Lorient ace, and reports in his native Gabon suggest Cardiff have the edge over Ligue 1 side Lyon, with the player believed to be against making a return across the Channel.

A source close to midfielder told Gabonese news outlet isport.ga: "One thing is certain, Didier will not play next season in Sunderland, a club relegated to the third Division. Currently there are three serious paths. Cardiff City, which has just been promoted to the Premier League, and where Bruno Ecuélé Manga plays, is one of the most serious paths.

"The agents of the players are activated. But there is also Lyon who are interested in the profile of the player. Unfortunately Didier Ndong does not wish to return to France."

He got sent off against us when we hammered Sunderland 4-0. It was never a sending off, but Sunderland were probably the worst team I've seen us play. I didn't realise Ndong then went to Watford on loan for the second half of the season.

Just looked up his time at Watford and he made the bench 3 times without playing a single minute. A bizarre loan signing which shows he isn't good enough for us in the Premiership imo.

The 2016/2017 season he was excellent in the prem for a struggling team. Only 23 and I'm sure sill be cheap, if NW sees a player there I trust him

Speaking to my Sunderland friends they said he's got a terrible attitude but he's decent when he can be bothered. That sort of personality doesn't seem to work with us...look at Tomlin.

Surely we need to be bringing in better quality than this? Seem to be linked with every man and his dog at the moment. Hope this is bullshit as well.

only 2 years ago he was worth 13m, I think this maybe the type of players Warnock is trying to pick up for pennies and get the best out of them.

I would be interested in knowing why Watford signed him on loan in the January window and did not play him a single time in the four months he was with them which seems a bit weird. Was he injured, did they think he was no better than what they had or was their something wrong with his attitude? The last thing we need is another Lee Tomlin on our hands.

From what I can tell, they agreed to sign him to cover a series of midfield Injuries,... The problem was he got sent off in his last game for Sunderland against us so had to serve a 3 match ban. By the time he was free to play the some of the injured players were back hence he missed his opportunity

another rumour, but this one could make sense. Being was bought for £13 m 2 years ago and he is still only 23. It seems he has some talent and BE / City could bring it out. He fits the ME stated plane ... could help us battle to stay in the Pre m but if we fail he can help us get back.
Wouldn't mind this signing :bluebird:

Made up story because of the Manga connection probably, we don't hear about the players Warnock signs until we see them tweeted in the shirt on the side of the pitch, treat all these signings with a pinch of salt !!!

He would be worth it at around £4million and average wages.
Any more and he is a gamble as that fee would be easily recoupable if the time comes that we need to sell him, £13million is not.

I think at around £4million we would have a much better chance of making a profit rather than losing money on him.

He is definatly talented enough the question is whether he has the right attitude and work ethic. Going by supporters views of him that is questionable.

Cardiff City massive favourites to sign £20m Premier League hitman
By Graham Smeaton

Cardiff City gained promotion back to the Premier League after claiming the second automatic promotion spot from the Championship last season, finishing behind Wolverhampton Wanderers.

For many it was a surprise that the Bluebirds went up, but went up they did driven by Mr Promotion himself Neil Warnock.

For boss Warnock it was a record eighth promotion and it will see him pit his wits, and tongue, against some of the best in the business in a league often thought to be football’s finest.

Not only will it be manager Warnock who’ll be slugging it out with some of the best managers in the world, his players will also be stepping up in competition. The Welsh side will find themselves playing with some of the finest football talent on the planet.

Goals will be at a premium, and this is a Cardiff side led by the 10 goals of midfielder Callum Patterson with forwards Junior Hoilett and Kenneth Zohore pitching in next with nine goals apiece. To that end, they could do with a more proficient and deadly goal scorer.

At the moment Cardiff City are massive favourites with bookie Bet Victor to land Watford’s £20 million striker Andre Gray. As it stands the Bluebirds are evens favourites to land the Hornets star, the nearest challengers being Premier League duo Everton and Brighton who are lagging way behind both given odds of 10/1.

Gray made his name at Luton Town scoring 55 goals and providing 25 assists in 106 games for the Hatters before a £560,000 move to Brentford at the beginning of July 2014. After 20 goals and 10 assists in just 52 games for the Bees, he was soon buzzing off to Burnley for an astronomical fee of £11.2 million.

Two seasons at Turf Moor, one in the Championship and one in the Premier League, brought 32 goals for the Wolverhampton born hitman – as well as a £18.4 million move to current club Watford in early august last year.

With Cardiff looking for goals, and Andre Gray having a knack of getting them, it’s seemingly a match made in heaven.
