The 23-year-old is likely to be moving on from the Stadium of Light following Sunderland's relegation to League One
Cardiff City are reportedly leading the chase for Sunderland's Didier Ndong this summer, despite apparent interest from French giants Lyon.
The midfielder is destined to leave the Stadium of Light before the start of the season following Sunderland's relegation to League One, and reports in Gabon suggest he is being lined up for a move to South Wales.
Ndong arrived on Wearside as the club's record signing back in 2016, but was loaned out to Watford in January,
But the 23-year-old was given little chance to shine in Hertfordshire, and failed to make a single first team appearance for the Hornets before returning to the north east.
Sunderland now look destined to sell the former Lorient ace, and reports in his native Gabon suggest Cardiff have the edge over Ligue 1 side Lyon, with the player believed to be against making a return across the Channel.
A source close to midfielder told Gabonese news outlet isport.ga: "One thing is certain, Didier will not play next season in Sunderland, a club relegated to the third Division. Currently there are three serious paths. Cardiff City, which has just been promoted to the Premier League, and where Bruno Ecuélé Manga plays, is one of the most serious paths.
"The agents of the players are activated. But there is also Lyon who are interested in the profile of the player. Unfortunately Didier Ndong does not wish to return to France."
