We understand St Mirren have also made contact with Paul Lambert about a possible return to Paisley.

Lambert won the Scottish Cup with St Mirren as a 17-year old in 1987, when he played alongside current St Mirren chief executive Tony Fitzpatrick.

Lambert is out of work after leaving Stoke City following their relegation from the Premier League.
