Sometimes Its not down to what league they are in. The facilities at swansea are better. No two ways about it.
My cousin's son had the option to go to both. He chose Swansea.
Simply because hes a keeper. And Swansea offered keeper training 5 times a week. Compared to Cardiff twice a week.

This is what Warnock was talking about. The club needs to build

They had seven years in the Premier League so could obviously have have better academy set up. Things will probably reverse, ours will hopefully improve, they will have to make drastic cuts, the academy could feature.

If that’s the case they chose Swansea, but prospects look better at Cardiff, if he and boys like him fancy switching to Cardiff City now, should we welcome them back ?

Let them rot where they are. Proud of the kids who chose us. :bluescarf:

Players and parents don’t choose clubs, the clubs choose the players.
My son figured for 7 years for Cardiff City, then released, picked up by Newport County, eventually ended up at Merthyr Town who are coached by Swansea City coaches as Merthyr Town are linked to Swansea City,s academy,
A lot of lads I know from Cardiff play for Swansea at all age levels as do boys from Cardiff playing for Bristol Rovers, Newport County, Bristol City and also Cardiff City.
Two of Bristol City,s hotest Prospects at youth level as sixteen year olds are two of my sons good friends from St.Mellons who are both close to Bristol City,s first team and both capped by a Wales. These two lads are exceptional, may son use to play in the same team as them. One was at Cardiff and one was at Swansea, but Bristol City stepped in and offered them both terms after a Welsh game, you snooze you loose. Neither are bothered about Cardiff as they both support (guess who) yes your right Liverpool. It’s dog eat dog in youth football for quality players. And as a parent you just want the best for your son which ever that team is as that team may set them off on a very lucrative football career :bluebird:

Yea we do have them. But They aren't as good as thiers. They let the kids use the same places as the first team most of the time. (Obviously at different times).

Warnock knows this hence his comments.

Well if someone picked it simply because they where prem, then they've not done it for the right reasons.

They just had all round a better set up.
But like you said that could easily change. And I expect it too.

Our lower levels, coaching staff wasnt even paid for months. Just before Warnock come in.

See my comment above, players don’t pick clubs, clubs pick players, it’s very very very hard to get into any academy especially in an area with hardly any teams. London, the midlands and the north west is far easier, much more choice many more clubs :bluebird:

You can pick clubs though. Sometimes.
Sometimes kids aren't lucky enough to have that option though. And its either Swansea or no one.

Not really London has more clubs but also a much larger population, that’s why Arsenal, Chelsea, West Ham, Spurs and more have much larger support.

I would still imagine thiere are very good prospects who would have had the choice of Cardiff or Swansea, and chose Swansea because they were a premier league team and maybe had a better set up, or offered more kit or whatever it is they do to bribe these kids/dads into going there ?

We seem to remember threads on here saying Swansea were taking boys from Cardiff over the last seven years.

If the tables turn and everything here looks better should we welcome them here?l

Not better or they have better staff? Swansea don't have same facilities hence saying infrastructure is there but perhaps quality of staff isn't! As for swans facility only seen Dutch barn and small pitches next to stadium uses they have similar to city elsewhere? The obvious difference is they've been in premier for 7yrs

It’s also how good clubs are at scouting players.
I go to a lot of youth tournaments and Swansea, Bristol City and Newport County scouts are always well represented, Cardiff do send scouts along but not as many and not to all decent tournaments. However Cardiff City scouts do operate in the West Country quite heavily :bluebird:

By your reckoning then Gareth Bale should never ever be welcome at Cardiff?

Re: Cardiff boys in the Swansea Academy’s

They made a choice to give themselves the best opportunity in a career where the majority fail, which is fair enough most people would do the same.

If they are good enough then it shouldn’t be an issue at all. I don’t think we can be picky, not like we have had loads of young talent breaking into the first team lately. Imagine a world class player coming through Swansea academy and then finding out he was turned away from Cardiff because he played for Swansea when he was 10 or 12. We need to make our catchment area as big as possible to try and find the next bale or Ramsey.

That said, players of that caliber are usually snapped up by the top prem teams.

What Cardiff born players have made it through Swansea academy none.

When did Bale play for Swansea academy?
