PROTEST: THE SWANS AND THE CASE OF THE TURNING WORM...

Swansea City fans announce protest plans for Sunday's final match as they turn fury on club's Board
By John Doel

Saturday 12th May 2018

The group of supporters want Huw Jenkins out.

A group of Swansea City supporters plan to hold a protest at Sunday's match against Stoke City after the club's relegation was all but confirmed earlier this week.

The Swansea City Supporters' Alliance (SCSA) say they are determined to oust chairman Huw Jenkins and other figures involved in selling a majority stake to an American consortium led by Steve Kaplan and Jason Levien.

The group are urging fans to wave money towards the directors' box in the 28th minute to signify their displeasure towards the 28 American investors they say now own the club, although only 27 are publicly known about at present.

Sunday's final match at the Liberty Stadium has the potential to be played amid a toxic atmosphere, with many supporters understandably devastated by the club's current predicament.

A separate protest outside the main reception is expected to take place around 1pm.

A statement from the SCSA said: "Unfortunately, for many of us our demise comes as no surprise. Years of underinvestment, the asset-stripping of our playing squad and the shameful neglect of our club off the field has led us to surrendering our Premier League future with little more than a whimper.

"Be under no illusion, the buck stops with those who placed us in such a perilous position - our past and current board members.

"As fans, what we must do, is fight to restore the pride and credibility of our football club and that will start with the removal of Mr Jenkins.

"So this is a rallying cry. The demise of our football club may well have started a long time ago but the battle to restore it has only just begun."

It continues: "We have arranged a protest for Sunday's fixture against Stoke, one that all are able to partake in and one that will leave our board under no doubt as to how we see our future - without them. On the 28th minute (signifying our 28 venture capitalist "investors") we would like you to take a note out of your wallet and wave them in the air."

The Americans didn't have a clue what they were buying and could only see £ signs. As they obviously have no interest in the club the only way they can get their money back - £100 million I believe- is to either gamble on coming straight back by throwing money at building a new side, or cut their losses, sell their best players and pocket as much parachute money as they can get away with. The second option seems the most likely.

Whilst some Jack supporters have gloated at us in past I do feel sorry for the genuine fans.

Ours was awful due to the fact we were fighting for identity and against the success we were having at the time. The fans were split.

Swansea have had a slow demise over 3 or 4 years and although they are together in their fight they ignored it.

They were happy until they were on the verge of relegation. Too little too late.

Many tickets available now as they sink to the depths of despair, and a protest that's too little and too late as they have no balls to do anything about the owners ripping the heart out of the club.

Great isn't it and I hope they end up in the conference :ayatollah:

I'm pretty sure the only time most of our fans found the bottle to protest is when we started going down hill.

I'm enjoying their demise but it's hard to say much without feeling like a hypocrite, and I never accepted the red.

The Jacks and us are no exceptions to this. All clubs I have seen protesting is when the gradient is negative.

They were so smug, light years ahead, Swansea way, love Huw Jenkins , run by local people, fans own the club and will never let them sell, the best trust in British football an example of how a club should be run :laughing6:

All Bollocks, thier protest will not change anything, the board have sold out and left them in the lurch, now they just have to get on with it and drop down the leagues, 50% or more of them won’t even be there in four years.

Protest all you like it’s too late and no one else cares, your ex owners will have a great time blowing your money

There were thousands protesting against the red who continued to support the team. You have no respect for those?

Respect those who fought for what they thought was best.

But the only protest in my opinion was masses of people not going and it didn't happen. The only real protest from the majority came after we were struggling and all but down.

There were a number of protests well before we look like we were going down. I recall one before the Man C game. I just feel that what BU did was not appreciated as they showed most of us up.

BU was a disaster that imploded on the people who started it for the right reasons but allowed certain characters to hijack and spoil it before it got off the ground :(

There has to be respect for anyone who (genuinely) chose not to attend in protest at the colours and/or the way they felt the club was being run but the numbers weren't high, as many used it as an excuse once it became clear the club weren't going to be bouncing back quickly

What's more important (for me at least) is that the club and majority of fans have moved on in spades since the arrival of Neil Warnock and there has possibly not been a better time to be a City supporter for many a year

It's up to others if they feel the need to look back rather than forward but I think the time for protest and bitterness at our club has well passed

Respect is a two-way thing! :thumbright: :ayatollah:

I remember there being a sort of spontaneous protest at Anfield, (more about Malky, though, to be honest). Also remember being part of quite a big anti-red protest before the Southampton home game, (around Christmas time).

Really Sven?

Then explain to me why Sian Branson was invited by the board to the Directors box? No need to explain why Dai Hunt was there I don't think I want to know that one.

BU did a good job keeping the issue alive, when it would have been easier to give in.

If you read the post, I referred to the good intentions of those who started it but that it was then hijackedby people with more sinister intentions, so it really is really! :thumbright:

No idea on Sian Branson in the Directors Box but I hope she declined on principle? That would smack of hypocrisy (given who the protest was about) and even opportunism! ;)

As for Dan Hunt? He's just omni-present! LOL  :ayatollah:

Its well documented Sian took up the offer. I really don't understand how this smacks of hypocrisy as this event happened after the return to blue. Its more like the club trying to build bridges of which Sian was happy to take up.

That makes some difference I guess and it was her prerogative but as I said, I wasn't aware (or took little notice) despite it being "well documented"
