Fulham's 23 Match Run

Mon May 07, 2018 7:42 pm

At the end of the day all it got them was a place in the playoffs along with teams who scrapped in at the end.
Never been good for the team who finish 3rd,usually it's the last placed team who normally finish 50 points behind them who go up.

It's wrong though isn't it?

In the play offs, 5th should be at home against 6th in a one-off game, then the winner of that game plays away to 4th in a one-off game and the winner of that game plays 3rd at Wembley.

That way, 3rd only has to win one game to be promoted, 4th has to win two and 5th and 6th have to win three games.

Coming 3rd should give some advantage and a better chance of winning promotion than 6th

Would end up being counter productive.

Just keep it the way it is

How would it be counter productive?

I think a two leg match between 3rd place in the championship and the team finishing 3rd from bottom in the premier would be fairer.

That way you prove you are good enough to take the place of a premier league team. Coming 6th and getting promoted is stupid imo

Because you’d have the team who play third going three weeks without a game

Wasn't that the way it was when a play off spot was first introduced?

They do say a break of that length is not as good as playing? so that system may not be ideal for 3rd place team even if they're only playing one match :old:

Bottom three down & top three up would solve the issue................................. Oh hang on a minute, that doesn't generate any extra income.

Thomasblues idea makes sense as well but again doesn't generate the income that the present system does.

It is very harsh for the team that comes third but makes the season more interesting and competitive because right until the end Teams like Millwall, Preston, Boro, Brentford had something to play for.

Without it three quarters of the league would be on the beach with a month to go, they are harsh but jeep them as they are, and if Fulham have the bottle they should still go up as they have the best results to date and by far the best Striker !!!

To be more than fair, as good a run it is, there was more than a fair share of good luck about it to make it 23 games. And they are where they are because of a poor start, I like the play off system it gives teams one last chance whether finishing 3rd or 6th and as mentioned with two games to go whether it be relegation or play offs about 16 teams were playing to get to top 6 or avoid bottom 3.

This year has been a real advert for championship football and as glad as I am going up, I will miss it, it’s got everything including the richest game in world football at the end of it all.
