Neil Warnock gives injury update on Aron Gunnarsson after Cardiff City star limps out of Hull win

The Bluebirds boss faces an nervous wait on the midfielder

Neil Warnock faces an anxious wait on Aron Gunnarsson's fitness after the Icelandic international limped off during the early stages of Cardiff City's sensational 2-0 win over Hull City at the KCOM.

The midfielder, who previously spent four months of the season sidelined with an ankle injury, was forced off on the seventh minute of proceedings on Humberside, which saw a Sean Morrison brace bring the Bluebirds to within a win of promotion to the Premier League.

Gunnarsson's withdrawal was arguably the only blot on an otherwise hugely successful afternoon, with the player himself looking in some pain as he was helped off the pitch.

The midfielder held his head in his hands once he reached the dugout, with his despair perhaps partially motivated by the suggestion that his place at the World Cup with his beloved Iceland could also be under threat.

Warnock isn't keen to speculate on the seriousness of the injury, but admits the initial signs are

NEIL WARNOCK:

"We won't really know until tomorrow. It was innocuous really," he said.

"His studs just got caught and he went over on his ankle.

"But his knee got hurt too so he's got both iced up at the minute.

"I thought it was bad because he doesn't go down too easily.

"But he was still delighted for the lads when they came in and it's hard for him but he's been instrumental in sustaining our position. So we hope that the scan doesn't show any breaks”

Aside from the concerns over Gunnarsson, Warnock has no new injury worries ahead of the season-defining clash with Reading on the final day, although he admits that there were some initial doubts over Callum Paterson before the long trip north.

"I didn't think was going to play and then he got done in the same rib he hurt before, so we were crossing our fingers that he was going to be alright," added Warnock.

I hope he's OK for the World Cup but not quite fit enough for our run in!

Don't like to see anybody get injured but will feel more confident if he's not in the side next week. We did far better when he was out of the team

Grujic proved again he can’t be trusted.

Looks like ralls Bryson and Paterson v Reading

Did he though? He picked up a really harsh booking and then got a final warning for another rather innocuous challenge. He was good when on the field.

Think that's Gunnar done for the season- and that includes the play offs if we end up there

Grujic gets a bad rap. He’s a decent footballer. He got thrown in yesterday and wasnt even warmed up. I agree there are positional issues he needs to deal with when out of posession (which for us can be 2/3rds of a game), but his ability with the ball is very good, and hes got a good head. Lets not forget our midflied has been chopped and changed the last few months and with players returning from injury, it would have been difficult for him to get a rhythm. Only 22 as well. Personally if we go up, id like NW to get another loan from Klopp. I feel he hasnt played as much recently as Neil’s realised we’ve needed to scrap. I dont see Grujic as this sort of player. Honourable mention to Bryson though - buzzing around mf, hes a right nuusance. Covers every blade of grass.

Agreed. He didnt look happy the lad, head in hands. That might be the last we see of him too if he does leave us, which I'm quite sad about to be honest.

Im not, we will definitely need a midfield capable of making a successful pass if we go up and that is not Gunarsson.

He doesnt have to worry though because he obviously feels that there will be plenty of Prem teams looking to snap him up which he made clear if we were to fail.

Agree. He's been a good servant but since he has come back in out rhythm has been upset and like you say he feels there are better teams than us that will want him. Best wishes for the future to him

Was instrumental in our winning run and played a big part, he can be rash on times but we've lacked that and that's why we have kicked on second half of the season.
