Hull City form and progress leave coaching staff wishing season wouldn't end

Saturday 28th April 2018

A season for Hull City riddled with frustration and concern regarding relegation has no doubt left many drained and counting down the days to the summer break.

The need not so much for contemplation but for getting off the sun lounger to draw a deep line in the sand and move on, hopefully with lessons finally learned.

In a small office at the Hull City training ground there’s no thoughts of beaches and cocktails with those little umbrellas, it’s talk of recruitment, of pre-season plans and first of all, of beating Cardiff City.

Forget the towel being laid out already, for head coach Nigel Adkins and his assistant Andy Crosby the focus remains as steadfast as the cold December day which greeted their arrival.

That focus stems from a desire to finish the season on a high. But there’s also a tunnel vision because once the blinkers come off, the realisation will hit that there are only two games of the campaign remaining and while that may appeal to some, that’s certainly not the case for the City coaching duo.

“We don’t want the season to end,” explains Crosby, who stepped into media duties this week.

“Myself and Nigel are probably the freshest two people at the football club because we missed that first six months.”
