Is the standard of refereeing this season worse than before?

Just watching the Fulham Sunderland game, and Sunderland should have had a penalty, only for the ref to wave play on and Fulham to go down the other end and score an equaliser.

Of course, in more than one game for us this season blatant refereeing mistakes have cost us points (Millwall comes to mind), but have referees always been this incompetent?

Fulham keep getting away with things! Brentford should have had a penalty in that match a few weeks back! We aren't given penalties when they are obvious ones! Surely surely surely - We have to have some luck go our way!

The general standard of refereeing in the Championship is absolutely shocking. You only have to see the difference in the odd game where we've had Premier League refs to see the difference in quality.

One thing you can guarantee is that we will get absolutely nothing given in our favour over the next few games in the way Fulham have in their games against Brentford and tonight.

Never really blame officials for defeats, but this season has been completely shocking and it would suggest it won’t even itself out...

I think the refereeing standards in the UK is really poor and Uefa / FiFa know it. Thats why not one is going to the world cup

Since the professional contracts came in, their highly paid job is to make sure they keep their paymasters happy the premier league and EFL. Keeping the big boys ticking along at the expense of the smaller is well know. But keeping the TV companies happy and making the championship the most "even" is paramount.

I am in no way saying its a deliberate policy, but subliminally its there.

The crap refereeing has led to this though. A clear shirt pull won't get penalised unless a player goes down. A player being held won't get given unless a player goes down. Going down easily is the fault of the refs for being so useless that you now have to demonstrate you are being fouled.

Inconsistency is the problem

As mentioned earlier, when is the last time there hasn't been a British referee at the World Cup. >?
