Ipswich Town interested in Sol Campbell

Ipswich Town are set to interview Sol Campbell for the vacant manager’s position at the club.

After the departure of Mick McCarthy earlier this month, Ipswich Town owner Marcus Evans is interested in the former England international.

This follows reports that Campbell was recommended to Evans’ by the ex-Tottenham manager David Pleat.

Town have been on the lookout for a manager ever since McCarthy left the club by mutual consent earlier this month following his dramatic announcement that he had managed his last game in charge after his side’s victory against Barnsley.

Campbell has been vocal on his intentions to get into management after being interviewed for the Oxford United role only to be overlooked for Karl Robinson, meaning we could see Campbell land his first role in management soon, with Blues owner Evans keeping his options open.

In an interview with Ipswich Town’s official club website, he said: “I am not going to pre-judge a manager. They could be young, they could be older, they could be experienced at winning promotion to the Premier League or not.”

He added: “But overall I want to find someone that buys into the club's plans. It is going to take some time and I expect to make an appointment towards the end of May or early in June.'
