Our ‘passing’...or lack of!

Sat Apr 07, 2018 12:15 am

Gutted to have got nothing from that tonight, but in truth we were second to everything and our complete inability to retain possession is a big problem - we work so hard to win the ball back and constantly give it away with needless passes or a rushed long ball. Sometimes a simple short, sideways pass is ok!

Other thoughts:

Ethridge was immense - some great shot stopping, but his reading of the game is so good.
Bamba - his usual brilliant self.
Midfield - We badly miss Gruic and Ralls. If both are available for Villa they need to come straight back in. For all his energy, Gunnar is part of the reason we lose so much possession and for the life of me, i just don’t see what Bryson actually does with ball. Damour should have come on tonight - he is much better in possession and moving the ball forward.
Ken - such a frustration. Can be brilliant, but for a big man he isn’t half weak on the ball. He clearly isn’t a target man, but we continue to try and play with him in that way.

I agree, Gunnarsson way to wasteful with possession and was walking for most of the game. Bryson was at least running, but that's all he does is run a lot, cant tackle, not good with the ball and arrives 2 seconds to late to every challenge. Thought Wildshut was garbage as well. Etheridge and Bamba were immense tonight mind.

Spot on .time after time we make a good challenge to break up an attack then the ball is gifted back to the opposition.happened at Sheffield and last night too often.

Can't agree with you about Wildshut. He put in some really good crosses in the 2nd half and his free kick forced a great save

Thought Bryson played well. His constant running prevented loads of attacks, forcing them backwards.
Not just because he missed the penalty, but I thought Jnr for the second game in a row gave the ball away too cheaply.
The one main gripe I have is the stupid bloody headed flick-ons we keep doing. Control the ball and actually pass it. We give away so much possession and resort to route one 40 yard hoof.
You can’t expect Jnr to win many against a 6’3 defender in the air.
Pathetic.
