Liverpool won't be permitted to call Marko Grujic back from his loan spell with Cardiff City to resolve their midfield crisis.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is short of numbers for Saturday's Merseyside derby with Everton and Tuesday’s crunch Champions League quarter-final second leg with Manchester City.
Emre Can and Adam Lallana are injured, while skipper Jordan Henderson is banned for the second leg against City.
Grujic could have come back into the mix to ease the lack of numbers, report the Liverpool Echo .
But the 21-year-old Serbian joined the Premier League chasing Bluebirds in January to get game time and under the rules he has to stay with Cardiff until the end of the season.
Grujic left Anfield after seeing his opportunities limited with the Reds in the first half of the season.
He has become a regular under Neil Warnock, but there has been speculation his place could be in jeopardy for tonight's humdinger of a clash with Wolves.
Joe Ralls is returning to fitness, while Aron Gunnarsson has also come back to the fold. Callum Paterson, Craig Bryson and Loic Damour are also vying for places in the midfield.

Madine... Should have been Pilks for sure, but he grabbed the ball as he obviously wants to get his first goal, but he couldn't have made it more obvious where he was going to put it. I don't rate him at all
