NEIL WARNOCK: ON THE WOLVES AHEAD OF FRIDAY'S GAME

Here's what Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock thinks of Wolves
By Mat Kendrick

It's a meeting of the Championship top two as Wolves travel to the Welsh capital on Friday night

Neil Warnock leads Cardiff City into battle against Wolverhampton Wanderers in a clash of the Championship's top two.

Cardiff trail Wolves by six points and have a game in hand ahead of the Friday night showdown in south Wales.

The Bluebirds beat Nuno Espirito Santo's men 2-1 at Molineux back in August and Warnock is determined to do a double.

A home win would give Cardiff another big shove towards promotion and would blow the title race wide open.

More than 27,000 tickets have been sold and it is set to be the biggest crowd for a league match in Wales for 42 years.

Warnock was named Championship manager of the season this week - here's what he had to say about Wolves in his pre-match press conference.

ON NUNO - AND MANAGER OF THE YEAR ACCOLADE

"I didn’t vote for him as manager of the season, but he’s I think done a great job. I voted for Neil Harris if I’m honest, I think he’s done a remarkable job with very limited resources.

"But Nuno has done a great job, I know how he feels.

"When I won the league easily with QPR I think Paul Lambert got it at Norwich who spent more money than me – even though we were the ‘moneybags’, so I was a bit peeved.

"This is the first thing I’ve ever won and it’s great for the lads to know we're well thought of. I couldn’t have done this without the boys."

ON CARDIFF'S PROSPECTS OF WINNING THE TITLE

"That's not really a target. We're looking at another point and we're definitely in the play-offs and we're not going to get on a high thinking about what we could do.

"This game is just the challenge of beating the best side in the league. You guys can think about 'what if' but Wolves and Villa, some people might not give us any chance in those games."

ON WHO THE PRESSURE IS ON

"We might be the form team but I don’t think we’re favourites, you’d have to say Wolves are favourites.

"You don’t become the top team in the league without being the best team.

"I think it’s the challenge of people like Wolves and Villa that we’ve got to revel in. We need to play in front of those atmospheres and welcome it, and push ourselves."

ON THE BIG GAME ATMOSPHERE

"It’s a fantastic game. We should be on for a very good crowd, if not a record crowd and Friday night on TV.

"It’s good for Wolves too. We’ve had a dig at some of the money they’ve spent but they’ve had a rough time and all credit to them. We played them once and did quite well against them but I think it’ll be a cracking game, me.

"I can’t see this one being anything other than entertaining. They’ll be at full strength with some very good players, the Portuguese lads have done brilliant and the backbone of the team, the English lads, have revelled in it as well.

"It’s a great mixture. Our lads are from a different market but we’re looking forward to pitting our wits against them. You’ve got to enjoy nights like this."

SANTOS READY

"We are ready" - that was Nuno's verdict as Wolves boarded the coach to Cardiff.

The Molineux boss is a man of few words and, as ever, he chose them carefully ahead of the trip to Wales.

"We are ready, everybody's ready to go," said the Portuguese manager, as his squad departed the Sir Jack Hayward training ground for their overnight stay.

"We approach games the same, no matter what opponent or which stadium. We are highly motivated, to play and compete.

"I always say the same, I am repeating myself. I don't get tired of thanking the fans for their support. I hope they enjoy the game."
