I'm taking my 6 year old son to villa and staying in b and b up there. Where's the best place to go for a pint before game that allows kids

There isn't really a great choice for away fans at Villa Park. In fact, several traditional home pubs have been shut down over the past 20 years or so.
If you imagine the ground, the pubs towards Aston (The Holte End side of the ground) are home fans only. You could probably sneak in the Aston Tavern which is a big, modern pub just on the left by the church. That's about the pick of the bunch and kids are welcome (there is a fee to get in of a couple of quid but this is normal for every pub on matchday). The Aston Social, just a bit further up is deceptive in size and has 3 different large rooms. Out of the two, the Villa Tavern is your best bet.
Going in the opposite direction (towards Witton) there is the dedicated away fans pub. I personally wouldn't use it if you dragged me inside. If you like all that pshing, shoving, singing, waiting for ages at the bar etc then it might be okay.
Many home fans these days drink offside a little bit or in the town centre where the pubs are slightly less busy and taxis are easily available to run to the ground (this is what I usually do). The town centre pubs are less kid friendly though.
It depends where you're staying. You might be better off drinking near your hotel and taxiing in. There is also a good rail service from the city centre to the ground and also in the other direction, from north of the ground, back down to Aston.

Lichfield is a very good shout. Lots of pubs, no hassle. Not much good for Cardiff though as it's in the opposite direction from where you are travelling from.
Not that we'll be seeing steven in Lichfield - Or anywhere else for that matter. He's on the numpty bus, not leaving until half three where any self respecting football lad would be on their 2nd or 3rd pint by then.
Steven will be off his numpty bus, a quick 30 seconds mouthing off from behind OB and then straight into the ground.

if your on the east/north east side of birmingham some decent places around minworth like the hare and the hounds and the white horse which can be found on the kingsbury road . that's the main road if you come off junction 9 off the M42 . If you venture a bit further in a decent place is the digby or the yenton which borders erdington and sutton coldfield which would be fine with a kid . the yenton is particularly good as it's next to chester road railway station so you could park up there and catch the train down . it's only 3 stops down where you get off to villa park and come back after the game . don't venture into erdington centre as it's a bit dodgy there !
failing that another option would be a place called star city where there is a complex of 5 a side pitches , cinemas , food outlets etc . you could park up there have some food with the kid and walk to villa park . it's next to spaghetti junction . probably about a 15 minute walk from there . at this moment in time that's what i,m going to do

obviously you havnt supported Cardiff long, as you would have been to The Witton Arms, when both teams were in the Premier, the Pub takes both home and away fans, As i said All Cardiff fans are welcome, but obviously where you decide to drink is your choice..

witton arms been to your pub when i went to a villa game 2 seasons ago which is a decent pub but takes frigging ages to get served . i can understand you coming on here when we are playing you next week etc
travelling bluebirds you are better off going to places like minworth , sutton coldfield , gravelly hill ,walmley for a pre match beer and food ahead of the game . i know these areas very well which is just outside the areas where it will get busy ahead of any aston villa game
