Aston Villa won against the ten men of Reading last night to close the gap between them and Cardiff to seven points.

And boss Steve Bruce still thinks that automatic promotion is still a possibility for the Villains.

Even before they went down to ten men, the way we started, the way we passed it, the way we played, was much more like it. There was a freshness about us after the game on Saturday.

It was a bit of a procession and a case of when we scored. The longer it goes on, everyone becomes a little bit edgy. We have to win on Saturday but the top two play each other.

There are still going to be many twists and turns. Fulham are there or thereabouts and the way they are performing, you have to say, is quite remarkable. But we’re still there. With six games to go, we have a chance.

All these reports try and make the gaps sound as little as possible, it is seven points, BUT THEY HAVE ALSO PLAYED ONE MORE GAME THAN US !!!!

I think he's in denial...

Until it is mathematically impossible of course Villa can still get promotion, same as they could still go up as Champions

But the likelihood is becoming less and less as the games are ticked off.

Don't think villa will get top 2 they are to inconsistent, I think it's between us and Fulham , keep playing like we have all season then we'll do it

Could go down to the final day. Be good if we could seal it at Derby, but I think it won't be settled until the last one, or possibly two games.

Any manager will say that if it's still mathematically possible- he's hardly gonna say it's impossible.

While they’ve been inconsistent, they have probably the best team player for player in the league and if they hit a run of form of which they are certainly capable and we hit another slump which could happen if we lose our next two games ....
