Tonight's referee

Mon Apr 02, 2018 10:37 pm

There have been many posts about bad referees on here but I thought Michael Oliver showed why he is one of the best in the Premier League. Let most things go and most refs would have been blowing for a free kick every minute

Thought he controlled it well and allowed for the conditions as much as he could :thumbright:

Some good decisions (tackles) in our favour for a change and it was refreshing to see :ayatollah:

The first time in a while I've not heard our supporters sing "We only get s**t refs!"

I often give referees in our games a lot of stick.

But I thought Oliver was excellent tonight. As you say, proved why he’s one of the best referees in the Premier League.

Can’t remember him getting many calls wrong as well. Perhaps there should have been a foul on the line of our penalty box not long before our equaliser, although I think it was just outside the box. Even so, that was the assistant referee’s decision due to the view that Oliver had.

Most importantly, he communicated with players rather than being card happy.

The standard of Premier League referees has declined massively since Howard Webb quit and Mark Clattenburg went abroad, but often impressed with Oliver and tonight was no exception.

He was consistent which is all I think we really want. There was a bit of holiding but both teams did it. No complaints tonight. We couldn’t have moaned had we lost but we are delighted with the smash and grab!

I agree thought he was fair for both teams and had a really good game.

I thought he started very well but began to tail off. Gave a lot of shitty free kicks against us then didn't give them a penalty kick for the challenge on the line of the penalty area - it's in the assistant's corner of the field but up to the referee to be getting that one for me. He gave nothing! Was then conned into giving them free kicks in the same corner twice in quick succession. However, I do think he's a very good referee and took the conditions into account when required to.

Glad he got the Bamba incident wrong and I thought he was lenient in not giving Bennett a second yellow.

I think for the type of foul it was there was no need for a second yellow - if we're both referring to the incident on the edge of the box.

I thought that he was excellent throughout. Have not seen any replays of the game, but he did not get intimidated by a terriffic home support. He gave Bennett a final warning, who was looking a bit worried!
