Sheffield United v Cardiff to go ahead as planned despite adverse weather as snow claims several sporting fixtures with Barnsley's trip to Nottingham Forest postponed

Cardiff's trip to Sheffield United could yet go ahead despite the numerous fixtures across the country being postponed due to snowfall.

The Blades have opened their box office, club shop and reception despite originally closing them on Monday morning due to adverse weather conditions and have announced the game is set to go ahead despite challenges created by the adverse weather conditions.

On Monday, United's official Twitter account announced that they had re-opened the previously closed facilities, writing: "Reception Superstore and Box Office now open! Game on tonight as planned."

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock will breathe a sigh of relief as he feared a second match cancellation in two weeks after Derby had their clash in March postponed due to 'unsafe conditions'.

It was a decision that was met by a raging Warnock, who slammed the 'scandalous' decision made four hours before kick-off. He said on Sky Sports: "Obviously there is snow but I think it's a disgrace quite frankly.

"You look at the game two weeks ago here against Fulham and if you look on the website all the Derby fans are saying it was ten times worse. As you see there is nothing here, the car parks are clear, all the shops are open."

There is, however, still a chance that cancellation could occur, which would further delay Warnock's season as his Cardiff side continue their push for Premier League promotion: A victory would move them 10 points clear of third-placed Fulham.

Sheffield United's under 23 side have already had their game with Colchester on Monday evening cancelled as fixtures across the country - with numerous Football League games at risk - are set to fall victim to another bout of snow.

Barnsley's trip to Nottingham Forest became the first Championship game to be postponed due to a water-logged pitch, with six other fixtures in danger of facing the same fate.
