Aston Villa have slipped up again in their pursuit of Cardiff City and the Championship automatic promotion spots.
Steve Bruce’s men were denied by struggling Hull City on Saturday evening and it could all-but end their hopes of reaching the Championship top two.
Cardiff City’s home win over Burton Albion on Good Friday meant there was a 10-point gap between the Bluebirds and their Midlands promotion rivals ahead of Saturday’s games.
And Aston Villa have failed to close the gap back to seven. The draw means they are now nine points behind Cardiff with the Welsh club possessing a game in-hand.
Aston Villa meet Warnock’s men a week on Tuesday at Villa Park when they will get the chance to close the gap.
However, with just 21 points available to Aston Villa in the last seven games, a nine-point gap with the team they are pursuing holding a game in-hand may well prove to be too much.
Especially given the Bluebirds form which has seen them go 12 unbeaten in the league, winning their last eight games.
Fulham also hold a points gap over Steve Bruce’s men after this weekend. They beat Norwich City on Friday meaning they hold a two-point gap over fourth-placed Villa.
