Let's not get carried away!

Sat Mar 31, 2018 7:44 am

Being a Cardiff City fan I am an eternal pessimist because we have been so near and yet fallen at the final hurdle so many times before. The FA Cup Final (2008) the Carling Cup Final and the Play Off Final all spring to mind but we didn't have Warnock has our Manager for any of those games!

However even though we are 7 points clear of Fulham I can't help thinking that if we lose our next 2 games (Sheffield United away and Wolves at home) both very difficult games. Then if Fulham win their next 2 we would only be point ahead of them and it would definitely be squeaky bum time!!!

I just hate being a pessimist but that's what 45 years of supporting City does to you :old:

Know what you mean bruv but one aspect makes it TOTALLY different this time. The Warnock factor!!!! :old: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: There is no way we will blow it this time, teams hate playing us at the moment. A few more wins and it's in the bag :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:  :headbang: :hello1: :occasion9: :wav:

I hope history does not repeat itself. I am sure there are forum members who, like myself, remember Sheffield Utd beating us 5-1 back in the 70's. That result virtually ended our promotion challenge that year.

That was boards fault for not replacing toshack until to late! this season the worry is Fulham look like wolves capable of not losing another game? What was good about yesterday was we didn't drop off during game which as been very noticeable in several games especially when subs used and at home. :old:

Ok its Sheff Utd but the circumstances are totally different.

The Blades then were our main rivals for the 2nd spot. They were actually a point ahead of us if I remember right and we had to get a win or draw to give us a chance to pip them. We got stuffed that night meaning although we still had a chance of pipping them it was a slight one. They had to lose at home to Watford who were fighting a relegation battle and we had to win our last 2 games. We had a game in hand over them and if results went our way we would have pipped them. For the record Sheff Utd beat Watford 3-0 and we beat Orient 1-0 but lost our game in hand against Luton 3-0 although at that time it did not matter.

Now its us with the advantage playing a Sheff Utd side under pressure to win this one this time. Personally I cannot see us losing this one and will not be surprised if we take all 3 points.

A win on Monday would put the pressure on Villa and Fulham who play the day after and it would keep us breathing down Wolves necks :bluescarf:

Yes I think we will be to strong for them as they are not in best of form defensively

They call me mr positive but even I can’t see the end just yet, that’s what city does to you. Take each game at a time.

I couldn't bring myself to sing "The blues are going up" yesterday......Bitten too many times.

Totally agree with one game at a time. I am confident we will do it however I think it's to early for singing we are going up. Let's beat Sheffield united then go to the next.

We only need to worry about ourselves, if we keep winning it gives us fans a great lift, but it adds the pressure of having to win on Fulham and Villa.

Glass is 100% half full but I will not be shouting we are going up until we can actually mathematically say it.

Agree 100% with the OT. I would add that in the worst case scenario we could be facing a trip to Villa only one point ahead of Fulham.
But I can't see Fulham keeping up their run either - despite their better run in. Its funny but every game seems bigger than the last! IF we can win tonight Fulham will really start thinking that they can't catch us. Normally I hate all the old cliches but.... it really is one game at a time.
I think we might just do it :bluebird:
PS
I remember the Toshack year. As I recall Leicester ended up getting promoted. BUT I am amazed at how well others can remember it. I must be getting really old!. As has been pointed out.. that year the board sold Toshack at a vital point. So credit to Tan and the board, (sorry Annis), for hanging onto Zahore and getting Marine to supplement our promotion push.
