Neil Warnock reveals how he’s had to tell Cardiff City players to ‘calm down’ in competitive training sessions ahead of the final run-in

Thursday 29th March 2018

Neil Warnock has revealed that he’s had to tell the Cardiff City players to ‘calm down’ a little during training sessions.

Cardiff City are flying high in the automatic promotion spots with a seven-point gap over nearest rivals Aston Villa and Fulham.

However, as the Bluebirds gear up for the final run-in, manager Neil Warnock has actually had to tell them to cool things down in training sessions.

The run-in will consist of Cardiff playing nine games in 41 days between now and May 6th but while players are desperate to keep their place or break into the team to be a part of the push, being weary of injuries is more important.

At least to boss Neil Warnock who has revealed a change in approach for the last few weeks of the season. He said: “I had to calm it down a little bit in training yesterday.

“I had to have a word because it’s going to be intense in the next five weeks. I won’t be punishing people for pulling out of tackles on the training ground because we have to be careful with all the games.

“Usually I won’t stand for people shying out of challenges and that sort of thing but we have to be careful now.”

Next up for the Bluebirds is a home clash against Burton Albion on Good Friday and the clash arrives after an extended break.

Warnock’s men were forced to head back from Derby without playing after a controversial postponement and that was the last fixture before the international break.

The 69-year-old was again quizzed on the postponement which caused a real storm between the two clubs and the EFL, but he’s now looking at the silver linings. He joked: “I’m not a health and safety inspector.”

“I didn’t think the fans deserved three tough away games in seven days, financially,” added Warnock. “The next available date was the 24th so we’re happy with that.

“I look forward to them all. The next game is Burton and I look forward to that. There are nine games to go but it’s really intense now.

“I think because of the other results, it wasn’t as disappointing in some respects. You’ve just got to get on with it. And the fact that they’ve all gone away with the wives as a group, it shows they are a close knit group. That’s quite unusual really.

“You want to be involved at this time of year. It’s exciting. There will be disappointments. We could have gone two down at Brentford but we know that if we hang in there, the way we are, we can get back. We just have to keep plugging away.”
