Torquay United striker Rhys Healey (on loan from Cardiff City) on going back to his own Stadium of Dreams!

Rhys Healey says that Chester FC’s Deva Stadium would be the best possible place for him to make an instant impact as he tries to galvanise Torquay United’s hopes of National League survival.

The Cardiff City loan striker took his first steps in the senior game with North Wales club Gap Connah’s Quay, his father lives in Chester and he revealed: “I used to go along to games at the Deva as a kid and dream of playing football there and other grounds like it one day.

“A few years later, on from what I’ve managed to achieve in my career already, I’m going back with Torquay, and plenty of my family will be there as well.”

Healey is 23 now and highly-rated at the Championship promotion-chasing Bluebirds, after other successful loan spells at Colchester, Dundee and Newport, but he is relishing the task of trying to give Torquay a desperately needed lift.

“I’ve only been here two weeks, but from what I’ve seen so far, I am still questioning ‘How are these boys still down near the bottom of the table?’,” said Manchester-born Healey, who has already scored once in eleven first-team appearances for Cardiff.

“There’s no pressure on me. I’ve come here to play as many games as possible, score some goals and, while I am here, I want to help Torquay out.

“I genuinely believe that, if we get a win on Friday, we can beat Woking at home next Monday and then it could be hard to stop us.”

Healey has already experienced the ‘toughening up’ process that several young Gulls loanees are currently going through, and he says: “I played in the Welsh Premier League as a 16 and 17 year old, and I took a few elbows and studs down my legs.

“For me the Under-23s is a sort of false football."

“You are better off playing with men and learning your trade that way. Over the last few years, I’ve gone out on loan at several clubs and it’s been hard at times, but I wouldn’t have changed it.

“There’s only eight games to go for us, and these are the biggest games that the club could play for a long time.

“I just want to make each day count, keep improving all the time and keep the other strikers on their toes.

“Of course, I want to score goals, but the only important thing at Chester is winning. If we do that, and I don’t score, I won’t mind.”

Healey dreaming of Deva berth

On-loan striker Rhys Healey is clearly already enjoying life at Torquay United, and he’s excited about the prospect of playing at one ground in particular.

The youngster has fond memories of watching this weekend’s opponents Chester, and is hoping that the trip to the north-west will give him the perfect enviornment to make an impact and inspire a survival bid for his new club.

I hope they stay up, would be sad to see Torquay fall down another level IMO, they have been flirting with it for a while now, suppose it's the way it goes but it's not that long ago they were not far off promotion to League 1.

I’m surprised he’s gone to a club at the bottom end of the National League.
