BREAKING: NEIL WARNOCK TODAY UPDATES CARDIFF CITY FANS :thumbright: :bluebird:

Here are some of the key points from today’s press conference:

Aron Gunnarsson set to return

Joe Ralls still injured, but Matthew Connolly could come back

Jazz Richards also out after suffering a setback on his road to recovery

Callum Paterson and Neil Etheridge ready to go

Joe Bennett opens up on his road to redemption after Man City red card

NEIL WARNOCK:

Good break?

“Because of the other results, it wasn’t as disappointing (not to play at Derby), so you’ve just got to get on with it. The lads have shown their spirit because they’ve all gone away with their wives. They’re a close knit bunch and I had to calm them down in training yesterday because it was quite intense.”

“I had to have a word about the next five weeks. I won’t be punishing people if they pull out of tackles if it’s silly to go into it… the lads know usually I don’t like them pulling out of tackles but in the next few weeks we’ve got to be careful what with so many games, we’ll have to taper it. The nine games all throw up different challenges. Every game is tough, you can’t say ‘that’s an easy one for them’ - not at this stage of the season.”

Where promotion would sit in list of achievements

“It’d be the biggest achievement of my career and when you look at my career it’s been a long one. I’ve spanned three or four decades and it’s an incredible time. It’s quite an emotional time because I’m getting old in the tooth but I don’t feel like that. I feel young in my mind and really excited at the minute.”

“ Coming here, not just turning the club round, but getting the fans behind me, I can’t tell you how good that feels as a manager to have 99.9 per cent of the fans behind you. Yes I’m going to make mistakes and pick the wrong player but even after losing 4 games on the trot I never heard any abuse, any chants or anything stupid.”

JOE BENNETT:

A big break?

We’ve had a few good days off, managed to get away with the family for a bit of sun and we’re now raring to go. Disappointing the Derby game was called off and we’re looking forward to the next game now.

Derby and 'snow-gate'

"A little bit frustrating because we made the journey there but it was out of our hands. There’s been a few heated exchanges and words in the media but it’s all friendly stuff and we now look forward to playing Derby again."

"I don’t know what their situation was with injuries, we had injuries too so it might benefit us to play them in a few weeks time. We’ve had players who have been out long term like Gunnars, it will be good to have him back."

NEIL WARNOCK:

Entertain the people

“The fans have looked after me and my intention is to pay them back, give them what they want. We don’t know if it’ll happen but it won’t be for the lack of trying.”

“While I was disappointed with the last home crowd, it didn’t bother me noise-wise. You always get people who will stay away but you’ve got to get them back. I hope we can get a 25,000 average gate, it’d be lovely for me to do that. I did it at Sheffield but it took me seven years. I want fans coming to Cardiff City to remember it for the rest of their lives, because we’re in it to entertain and make people go home and talk about the game. There’s too much negativity in football and sport, but it must be a good time to report on Cardiff City at the moment.”

Thoughts on ball-tampering scandal overshadowing cricket?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“I’d be lying if I said I haven’t enjoyed it. I’ve got one or or Australian friends and over the years I’ve taken some stick. It just shows at the top level how people have tried to get the slightest advantage.”

“It won’t be forgotten now, it’ll be for life. It’s a terrible taint on Australian cricket, because they are the top lads, they’re the team you want to beat. It’s only a year’s ban in writing, it’s a life ban really because they’ll never get over it. It’s difficult to talk about it really. It taints the whole country. And you can’t compare it with a dive at football, it’s premeditated.”

Dreaming of promotion yet?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“Looking at the fixtures, they are quite formidable on paper so we’ve got to work on your own team, looking at different options to give opponents different problems. I believe we can get better than what we are and I hope in the last nine games we can show that.”

Cardiff going up or Burton staying up the bigger feat?

NEIL WARNOCK:

“Both are incredible really looking at the wage bills Look at the teams we’re competing against, we’ve no right to be where we are. I don’t feel there’s as much pressure on us as much as the other teams, who really should to go up. I said to Vincent and Mehmet we’re guaranteed a play-off spot now; if we don’t get an automatic spot we’ll go up in the play-offs and even if we don’t win the play-offs, we’ll have a good go next year. “

“We’d be disappointed but it’s not the end of the world and our fans will give the team a good backing at the end of the season, whatever happens.”

Paterson and Etheridge update

NEIL WARNOCK:

“They came back Tuesday night and I told them to relax. He’s [Paterson] had a long lay off with his cruciate with 10 months and he’s always full on so I was pleased that Alex (McLeish) put him on the bench. He came back Tuesday night to Edinburgh and is back to training today.”

“ Neil Etheridge is absolutely buzzing to qualify, I would imagine he’d get knighted having been so instrumental to the Philippines. It’s a great achievement and I’m delighted for him. He’s a goalie... he doesn’t do anything, does he?! So yeah he’ll be alright. You want to be involved at this time of the year.”

NEIL WARNOCK: INJURY UPDATE

Jazz has had a setback, the bone has healed but he’s got a plate in there and the fracture underneath has been caused by the plate. The surgeon saw him and decided he’s now got to have the plate out, so he’ll be out for another two or three weeks, which is a real blow for the lad.

Connolly should be OK if needed this weekend.

Joe Ralls is doing really well, so we’ll see how these games go. I wouldn’t want to risk him before next weekend if I could help it so we’ll see what’s what.

Neil Warnock looked forward to getting back to Sky Bet Championship action, as he spoke to the press in the build-up to City's Good Friday game with Burton Albion.

Neil began by focussing on the spirit of his troops, who have now returned to training following the international break.

“The lads showed what kind of spirit they have with the fact that they all went away together with their wives as a group,” he pointed out. “That’s unusual in a way and I’ve never seen it before.

“They are a close-knit group and I think they’ve enjoyed the rest. Now they’re back in training and I actually had to calm it down a bit yesterday because it was so intense.

“We’re back to normal and the last two days have been really good. I look forward to every game now - none more so than Burton on Friday."

The Gaffer also commented on Neil Etheridge’s momentous achievement over the break, as his Philippines side qualified for their first ever AFC Asian Cup, adding: “He’s absolutely buzzing. It’s a great achievement and I imagine he’ll be knighted over there, if they do things like that!

“He was really instrumental and when you see a country do something like that, it’s remembered forever. Now I’m looking forward to going on holiday there!"

Finally, Neil reflected on his career in the dugout, explaining that this Cardiff City side may well be the best he’s ever managed.

“It would be the biggest achievement in my career,” he said. “And if you look at my career - it’s a long one!

“I’m getting older in the tooth, but I feel really young in my mind at the minute, and I’m really excited and enjoying it.

“I’ve been lucky to have seven promotions. I look back at those teams and they all had characters, they all had leaders and people that took responsibility.

“This group may even be the best I’ve ever had. I don’t know how far they can go, because we’ve only just started on the journey.”

Is Neil saying Joe Ralls is likely to return for the Wolves game? If so, great news :bluescarf:
