Just spent a couple of hours reminiscing ... listening to some of my favourite music from my student days (Portsmouth Polytechnic, early eighties).
Most of it involved great anthems from The Alarm and Big Country. Stuart Adamson passed away a number of years ago now but Mike Peters is still rocking bless him!
Here's a couple of samples...

What did you listen to back in the day?

Free, Thin Lizzy, Cream, Badfinger, Hendrix, just a few I enjoyed through my teens and early twenties. Plenty of others as well.

What 'student days'?

Students? I left Pandy Comp in 1979, I was listening to Punk Rock then-Upstarts, UK Subs, Cockney Rejects, SLF and many more. Going to gigs in Grannies, Troubadour, Top Rank, Stowaway and lots of other long gone Venues. In 2018 I still listen to and go and see Punk bands- Dirtbox Disco, Skurvi, Millie Manders, Flat Worms, Crown Court and of course some of the oldies now and then!

Quite an eclectic mix of tastes there already.
Apologies to those of you who didn't go the further education route. I only did as I had no idea what to do when school finished!
Pre student days I was more into Thin Lizzy, Motorhead (RIP Lemmie), Rainbow & managed to see quite a few gigs at the old Sophia Gardens.
Favourite student day gigs were The Alarm at Portsmouth Guildhall, U2 Portsmouth Top Rank & U2 at the Lyceum in London

I went to see a few Punk gigs at London Lyceum back in the early 80's, not for the faint-hearted, lunatics everywhere! I saw Rainbow and Thin Lizzy at Cardiff Capitol in 1977, also Motorhead at Sophia Gardens with Saxon supporting-sorry Lemmy, but it WAS too loud.

i‘m a britpop lad (blur, oasis, pulp, gene, suede, echo belly, elastica) alongside Seattle grunge (late 90s at school). Seen Coldplay at Liverpool uni when Parachutes released (they were a rock band back then), and Robert Plant & Strange sensation at the SU too. Miss my City. But I love my new one: CCFC! Bluebirds!
