Bolton chairman Gary Madine: I was upset – I’m still upset

Tue Mar 27, 2018 3:37 pm

Bolton chairman on Gary Madine

In a deal worth £6mill.
Bolton received £2mill up front from Cardiff City and will receive £4mill if Cardiff are promoted.

Bolton chairman Ken Anderson has been speaking at length with our colleagues at the Bolton News, on how he’s been watching Gary Madine play for Cardiff instead of tuning into the Champions League - and more about the deal that took Madine from the Macron to South Wales.

Bolton chairman Ken Anderson:

I think when you start watching Gary Madine playing for Cardiff instead of Manchester United on the other side, you realise it’s grabbed hold of you a bit.
Being honest, the wage contribution being offered by clubs was making very little difference (in the Madine deal). Three or four who I’d considered moving on are now playing regularly and the hardest job when I speak to Phil on a Friday night is picking a team, which is how it should be for a manager.
He’s done a terrific job. I think at one stage we couldn’t play some players because they didn’t fit the system but that has changed. I think he feels he has more options now.

I was upset – I’m still upset – we had to sell Gary but it has opened up different possibilities of playing. Maybe it has worked out for the best?

I would be amazed if they get another £4 million if we get promoted, that is probably way off the mark more likely to be half that

The £4 million is probably based on firstly gaining promotion, then staying staying in the premier league and also appearances, goals etc....

Warnock is quoted as saying it wasn't 6m but 5m!

They can have him back for £1million.

How can you say that? Will need him at times over the next month or so, Ken cant be expected to play every min of every game, so who would go up top to bully centre halves and play others in?

If your £1m quip was a nod towards Madine's contribution on the pitch so far then that's understandable as he hasn't exactly pulled up too many trees.

However, I have always thought the biggest benefit of the Madine transfer was the kick up the arse it has given Ken Z who suddenly looks a completely different player.

As for the article if Bolton do eventually receive £6m for Madine then last thing they should be doing is crying about it

I'd like to see Madine play to his strengths which is assumedly like an old fashioned no 9, having balls crossed to I'm from the bye line to nod in.

He has a big part to play in the run-in.

Agree. wouldn't surprise me if he gets one or two late on against the likes of Wolves or Villa :ayatollah:
We'll be under the cosh for long periods of time so there could be the need for "hoof ball" during these games.
