Neil Warnock: "It’s a great three points"

CARDIFF CITY FC

Saturday 10th March 2018

Neil Warnock spoke to the assembled press and media following City’s sixth consecutive victory, against Birmingham City, on Saturday afternoon.

“It’s a great three points,” the Gaffer began. “It’s difficult to keep winning when you’re playing Saturday/Tuesday but I thought we did ever so well.

“We had some great chances. We could have won by five or six today but once the referee makes the penalty decision it gave them (Birmingham) a lift.

“We’ve deserved the six-game run. We were disappointed with the draw at Millwall. We set a points target for the play-offs and we’re there after this win.

“The games we’ve got left are difficult. We’ve got to go away to a lot of the big teams and you can see the effort the lads put in against Birmingham. We played good football, and could have made it easier for ourselves but hopefully we’ve saved up the goals for when we need them.”

Warnock went onto to praise the influence of Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Marko Grujić.

“I thought he (Mendez-Laing) did really well on Tuesday night against Barnsley, hitting the post. In training he’s been on fire - probably the best finisher out of all of the lads. I said to him in training that we need his last ten games to be like his first ten games then we’ve cracked it. He’s an exciting player and he’s got his confidence back. It’s all about confidence.

“I thought (Marko) Grujić played his game for us too, he dominated in the middle and in the air.”

Grujic is another excellent Warnock signing. We barely missed Ralls today.

NML looked more like himself, probably need to be involved more but did well.

Tried to watch Grujic and loved the way he went almost into a back five when brum had a goal kick and uses the ball well generally.

I thought NML went missing all of the first half after he’d scored. I just think he’s finds himself in positions a lot in which he can’t effect the game. His touch also leaves a lot to be desired! Very heavy footed!

Let’s hope he can turn it around!

I didn't feel he went missing but maybe not as effective has he could be. Buts positives he was beating players today which he hadn't been previously. Decent goal. I think his confidence is improving.

Grujic excellent today and my personal MotM :ayatollah:

I thought Mendez-Laing looked more like the guy we saw early season and Kenneth Zohore is getting back to his best; although I wish he'd be a bit more physical on occasion (I can't believe the manager has told his forward 'player' not to get too involved outside the box)

Craig Bryson also worth a mention for slotting into the midfield in recent games :ayatollah:

I thought the score was closer than the game itself an it's another step forward for our club! :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Grujic, at just 21, looks like a prospect. If we go up I hope Klopp lets us keep him for another year. He played a deeper holding roll yesterday, I like him pushing forward a bit. Sad when Bryson went off as I thought the MF looked more balanced. JB looked like he wanted it too, great assists. And Pato is such a handful. Let’s dream, NW is the 12th man, promotion is there for the taking!

I'm not a huge Bryson fan but he does offer energy. Thought Demour was awful when he came on.

If he plays anything like he did for the first five games we will go up, our front line with Hoilett and Zohore were unstoppable at that time, and our midfield options have improved since and we have the best defence in the league.

I really hope he can get back to his very best :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :bluescarf:
