Best Memories Away

Thu Mar 01, 2018 5:38 pm

My Top 3 memorable away days;
1.Burnley away -Tuesday night in 90's 1500 of us and the noise we made that night was raw, stones flying down from their crew h/t and
2.Swansea away 80's- toxic atmosphere , 3000 boys and together as one from start to finish.Never before or again did we have to climb a 8ft fence before to get in an away end.
3.Scunthorpe away- 90's - 6000 of us either end of the ground, great togetherness and then onto Blackpool for a mad one.

3, Wolves away 88 season when we beat them 4-2 if memory serves me rightly they were top and we were 2nd? In pub just outside Wolves b4 game when minibus of city fans from Cwmbran turned up wearing red berets and performing a song the rose and crown rap, when they were leaving they kidnapped the landlord dropped him off mile down the road

I was there for that Bristol City game, them tossers singing about Aberfan , so at the end of the game Cardiff dismantled the turn styles to get at them

Actually 3 games on the trot come very high up the list.

Palace, Peterborough and Bury at the end of the 75 - 76 season.

Both cup ties at Middlesborough but particularly the 2008 game as the reality set in that I was finally going to see City at Wembley.

Exeter away on the opening day of the season. We won 2-1 and it was our first game after Sam Hammam took over. We were behind the goal, only a small barrier about 3 foot tall seperated us from the pitch and I was right towards the front by the barrier.

Before kick off, I remember a City fan alongside me totally bolloxed taking a piss against the barrier, then when the game got underway, someone threw a pie at the Exeter keeper stood just in front of us. The next time the Exeter keeper took a goal kick, he picked up the pie, threw it off the pitch, then walked towards us and blew us all a kiss before taking the goal kick. We had some good banter with their keeper for the rest of the half.

Josh Low scored the winner and it was bedlam. Someone jumped on the barrier to celebrate, fell off over the otherside and landed awkwardly breaking his ankle. It might have been the same person who was bolloxed pissing against the barrier earlier! The paramedics helped him onto a stretcher and wheeled him across the front of us to an ambulance. He sat up and did the ayatollah getting rapturous applause from the City fans while we chanted "you'll never ban a City fan!"

Before that we beat wolves 3-2 away. Think Peter Thorne scored and kavanagh a screamer. Kicked off as soon as we exited the stadium. Cardiff running for wolves up the hill...

I remember the Manchester pub, there were a few fans of other teams , Pompey being one, in small groups around the place when what seemed like hundreds of Cardiff fans in there got up and started singing City songs, these other fans looked stunned as to how many Cardiff were in there finished their pints and left the pub

Great thread and stories

Most have given 3 so I'll do the same, a few that stick out...

Brentford away when loads got locked out, was mental, the away end was packed and Cardiff on about 1/4 of the opposite terrace sectioned off and in the seats to the right of us, Cardiff fans going mental outside and we were throwing the advertising hoarding over the back wall to them god knows why. great atmosphere and the best hot dog I have ever had at a Football ground  was a different crowd there that day I know people hate the 'Rugby songs' but I remember Sospan Fach being belted out and it was wicked. Also at the end someone launched a broken seat from the seats above and where it was sharp it landed in the grass like a javelin, thank f**k it never hit anyone  , Cardiff fans were angry that day, in a shop after the game and a toilet roll smashed me in the back of the head  then Cardiff fans just totaled the place, not good at all being honest.

Stoke Away... mental day, dont need to say anything realy.

First ever bubble trip to Swansea in 96, due to age to young for the trips before, but this was still a good laugh, them all lined up on the streets waiting for us etc and to be fair the atmosphere was brilliant from them on the North Bank aswell.

There are loads, could be here all day

I always loved trips to Eastville but I don't know why looking back. Even in the summer you could be knee deep in puddles just walking 30 yards from the bus. Big open terraces, miles from the pitch, miles from the opposition fans you'd think would give it no atmosphere. It may be selective memory syndrome but for me it always had a cracking atmosphere even though there was probably lees than 10k in there.

Hated going to Swansea even in the days when you could get a pint in the pub opposite the station. Always too much edge for me.

Really loved the Victoria ground Stoke. When the away end was still a big terrace that place was great stadium. We must of only played there in the winter cause my recollections are all of coming out in fading light, drizzle and a feature of football car parks in the 70's, puddles up to your knees.

Has to be my first away game when I was about 8/9 years old , away to Watford at Vicarage Road around 1969/1970 season with my Dad (RIP)on a business trip up London way.

I'm sure we won 1-0 with Toshack on his head(as usual)

Even remember that Watford had a player (number 7 I think) called Stuart Scullion and always thought that was a strange name!!! - funny how things stick with you even though I can't remember what happened last week these days ! ha,ha.

The memory sticks with me to this day, which just goes to show that taking youngsters at an early age is the best way to secure lifelong support.

Blooobirds Forever!!! :bluescarf: :bluebird: :old:
