I know we like a good attendance debate on here.

This was the attendance for the Reading / Sheff U game tonight. I know they are having a poor season but that is STILL very low for a Championship side the size of Reading.

How may Season Ticket Holders do they have?

Is it a weather thing?

Well less than the attendance tonight unless they don't count ones who don't turn up? :o

All club's count season ticket holders attendances..... dont they? Which is why I asked the question. They must have one of the lowest levels in the league.

In England the rules of the Premier League say that attendance figures that are publicly reported should be the number of tickets that are issued or sold.

Not the number of people who actually attend. (I understand the Football League rules say the same, although I couldn’t find the precise clause.)

The actual attendance figure can be quite different to the number of tickets that are issued or sold. Season ticket holders may not turn up for a midweek game. Complimentary, i.e. free, tickets could be issued but not used. People might even walk out in the middle of a match as a protest.

Modern day attendances are based on the number of tickets sold as opposed to the number of bums on seats which means the figures released are not a true reflection of the number of people in each ground.

Frustrating for the anoraks, but the easiest way for clubs to calculate attendances. The fact is, unless a few thousand season ticket holders decide not to turn up - which in itself is unlikely - attendance figures released will always be close to actual total.

So in other words they have less than 6k ST holders?

Unbelievably low attendance , just a shade lower than the jacks with a qtr final place at stake.

It surely must have been the weather in London, not sure what the jacks excuses are tho.

Hull had 14k which is not bad midweek against a relegation side.

Disgraceful attendance by Reading.

In the 70's/80's Reading use to get 3,000-4,000 fans and barely bring 50 fans to Ninian Park, they were always known as a small club.

They only got big crowds in the Premier League, because most people in Reading Support all the Big London Clubs.

Reading might be fighting relegation, but thats a terrible home crowd.

Sheffield United were not even in the play-offs before last night, but still took about 700 plus to Reading.

That's about the size of crowds they used to get at Elm Park.

Reading still had 400 more than Cardiff had for their game against Mansfield which was played at 3pm on a Saturday was not live on TV and was not played in -2C conditions.

Great comparison a cup game played by reserves against a league game with one team playing for playoff spot! :geek:

Don't know tbh, as there are no figures available for this season but it would seem so, if this calculation is used

It does seem a little odd, as even though Reading FC had a reasonable season in 2016/17, their average crowds are currently on a par with recent seasons at a little over 17k

To me, having less than 6k season ticket holders doesn't add up but without knowing the sales figures it might well be

Ironically, their lowest 'home' Championship attendance this season came in the game against Cardiff City and that attracted just 11,397 supporters. Their highest 'home' crowd being 20,708 versus Wolves in November (slightly above the Championship average of 20,140)

Being from the area, much of it is down to the terrible football that's being played under Jaap Stam at the moment. Much of the fans believed they got rather lucky last season given they had such a dreadful away record. This season their home record has also been dreadful while many of the line ups have been baffling, as well as the insistence on playing useless players.

Given the temperatures and the terrible football, I don't blame that many for staying away.

Re: 6,769

That’s bad support, especially as United brought a good few away. So is Swansea’s support, I thought they were the number one premiership team in Wales. It makes you realize though, how big football is in Sheffield to have two teams, and both take a good away following like that.

350 mile round trip on a midweek night and Sheff United not even in play offs
