WILL JOE BENNETT GO STRAIGHT BACK IN THE TEAM AWAY TO MILLWALL?

By Ian Mitchelmore

Monday 5th February 2018

Joe Bennett felt the wrath of his manager after being sent off for a nasty challenge on Brahim Diaz in the final stages of Cardiff's 2-0 FA Cup fourth round defeat to Man City.

And that incident - which came after Bennett's horror tackle on Leroy Sane - meant the defender was suspended for the trip to Elland Road.

Warnock revealed after the Leeds win that Wales international Jazz Richards suffered a blow in training ahead of the trip north, and it meant Armand Traore was handed his Bluebirds debut little more than 24 hours after his loan capture from Nottingham Forest was officially announced.

On the whole, Traore had a debut to remember as he registered an assist for Callum Paterson's opener and proved to be a constant threat on the left while he was - aside from the build-up to Sol Bamba's own goal - pretty solid defensively too.

Speaking about the signing of Traore, Warnock said: "I signed Traoré from Arsenal while I was at QPR and I’ve kept an eye on him ever since. He gives us a lot of versatility down the left with his natural left foot.

"We’re delighted he is coming in as part of the squad and I’m sure he’ll be an asset to us."

Credit to Richards, he made an impressive return to the side in January after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury while Bennett has been far more consistent this term.

But three - or even four if you include makeshift left-back Lee Peltier when he's fit - doesn't go into one, and following his debut display, you feel that Traore may well have stolen a march on his team-mates.

Stick him on the bench. Decent player but a bit of a muppet in the FA Cup game :bluebird:

He's been outstanding all season he should start

Sometimes managers stumble across their, best team trough circumstance rather than any tactical genius, this could be the case with the starting 11 on Saturday against Leeds so id keep the same 11. alltough Wildschut will have to have a fitness test first.

Agree with this. He's been a solid player for City this season and the incumbent Armand Traore will give him incentive to keep it up :thumbright:

A daft tackle v Man City shouldn't be punished anymore than it was and I think Neil Warnock will start him at Millwall with a flea in his ear as to the future and the challenge he as now been set ;)

Yeah got to agree, he would have had a bollocking from Warnock, who also called him out live on tv for it, would have been fined and lost out on performance bonus v Leeds, on top of actually missing out on what turned out to be a fantastic team performance. He’s also watched the club go and sign another out and out left back who also set up the first goal and the match as a whole, so I’d say him punishment is just about done

With it being live on TV and can see the public castigation lasting another game. Traore did well so why break a winning team

He’s been solid all season and it would be very harsh not to start him. Although Traore had a decent debut, it’s always more of a risk changing your back line. Not starting Bennett just to punish him would be a big call by Warnock.

Traore has knicked his jersey for now but great to have a bit of depth now. :thumbright: :ayatollah:

One of the best players this season, of course he walks straight back in, it would be the same for Morrison, Ralls and Hoilett, they are first names on the team sheet !!!

It's embarrassing how it's still talking point for people in the media, blown way out of proportion.. it's almost like a player has never had a red card.
