Leeds have sacked the manager after the 4-1 loss to Cardiff

Leeds are set to name Barnsley's Paul Heckingbottom as their new manager.

Thomas Christiansen was axed on Sunday night in the wake of Saturday’s crushing 4-1 home defeat to Cardiff.


Former England boss Steve McClaren had emerged as the favourite for the Elland Road post having been in the stands on Saturday.

Jaap Stam was also high on the bookmakers' list but Leeds have moved for Heckingbottom.

They have activated his buy-out clause at Barnsley, believed to be close to £500,000, with an appointment expected in the next 48 hours.
