"SOME PERSPECTIVE"

I honestly can't believe how many Cardiff fans are moaning and having a go at the club and the manager. Let's just look at some facts from the past 18 months and realise how amazing it is we are two points off automatic promotion in February.

1) Neil Warnock takes over a squad bottom of the league with 8 points from 11 games with no real sign of where the next point is coming from. Tan Sri Vincent Tan has stated he won't invest in the club after going back to blue and we have to live within our means. All of us are hoping we don't drop into League One

2) Neil Warnock signs 4 free agents, 2 didn't work out, 2 are actually our 2 best players this season; or at least in most peoples top 3. How many other managers would have pulled that out of their bobble hat?

3) Neil Warnock stabilises the club, picks up some great wins and starts to get us playing his way. We finish mid-table with no worries

4) Pre-season, most people were saying we would finish around 8th. We took a gamble on Lee Tomlin, picked up some bargains in Loic Damour (less than 4 grand a week) and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, whilst convincing Joe Bennet and Junior Hoillet to stay after their existing deals run out and Fulham come knocking

5) The club win 5 games in a row, crowds consistently under 20,000, nobody turning up; even when looking good and playing well. You simply cannot complain. We didn't spend in January when the fans aren't paying the money.

6) At one point this season we had 11 first team players out in a squad that has seen no money spent on it and their one "'ig' signing simply didn't get fit. Yet we are still 2 points off automatic, even though we lost 4 on the bounce over Christmas

7) Back to point 1, Tan Sri Vincent Tan has always stated he's not investing anymore. We know this, he wants to sell. Neil Warnock gets 2 of the highest earners off the wage bill and brings in 5 players across the squad to compliment what we have

8) We are two points off automatic promotion!! Look what we have spent. Look at our squad on paper compared to the rest. We are competing when we simply shouldn't be. The last thing this club needs is people complaining when fans aren't turning up

Get behind this team. Back what Neil Warnock has done and don't let us, the fans, be to blame for the team not performing. If they fall short, then so be it. That is to be expected. We aren't as good as the other teams on paper but Warnock seems to get that little bit more out when others can't

4 months away from the Premier League; start being positive and we may just get there!

Top post, Warnock has worked miracles in the last 18 months...I have a strong feeling our January signings are going to turn out a lot better than people think :ayatollah:

Hard to argue with anything there, particularly as most of what was said are facts rather then opinions.

Re: Some Perspective

I think after the early part of the season we were in a very false position, and Fulham, Villa, Derby took a long time to get into their stride. For us to still be where we are with the resources they have is unbelievable and people need to be more realistic than what they have been

We never had 11 first team player injured, We might have had a mixture of first team, bench warmers and fringe players but never a complete first team.

I never quote people - but I make an exception here!! That is a very salient report on the great progress made under Warnock ( and Tan deserves some credit too). I don't disagree with any of the points made.

Regarding the transfer window, Iam confident that Madine will add to our forward power. However, personally, I think we needed a proven midfielder in the window. A lot seems to be resting on Ralls and the young shoulders of Grujic Hopefully Gunners on will be available soon and can hit the ground running despite a long I jury absence.
Anyway...well said that man, and let's be positive and support them 100%.

I consider the "first team" to be the 18 players selected on match day, not the first choice starting 11, so we effectively agree on the same point there if not the wording

If our fans don't have something to moan about then they will mind something. We don't spent enough, the debt is to big. Out squad is to small, the squad is to big.

I think some fans prefer a protest than the calm.

Times they are a changing. A City fan using the word ‘salient’ in a cohesive sentence.
Jaysus Christ I applaud you Sir. :notworthy:

agree obviously that warnock's done a great job - just goes to show that a year or so is a very long time in football nowadays.

fans are always entitled to their opinion on all matters, though.

i also disagree with this statement: 'We are competing when we simply shouldn't be'. plenty of clubs with much, much lower budgets than ours have been promoted in recent years. burnley had one of the lowest budgets in the league when they were promoted!

Good to see this string of positives reiterated. It’s been a great season so far and so much of that is down to Warnock’s personality, positivity and approach.
I love seeing him beaming on TV and talking about how we need to enjoy the whole thing.
I just hope he sticks around, promotion or not. Really proactive transfer window - two tough away games to come. It’s all good.

Great post. I have had a chunter on some occasions which is out of frustration and me wanting City to be the best in the world, but I totally agree with your comments. Come on City and come back City fans lets go forward together into the Premier League.

Re: "SOME PERSPECTIVE"

If ,as you say, Mr Tan will not invest can you explain where the money came from for Madine and the others because it's certainly not from gate receipts.

1st 11 out.... not for me, sorry.

Good post otherwise.

Re: "SOME PERSPECTIVE"

Fri Feb 02, 2018 7:33 am

Great post, we have to look at the WHOLE picture! Neil Warnock's done here what very few, if any other mangers could have done.

And don't forget we all wanted blue and less spending money so we can't winge when we don't get the likes of Grabban.

Re: "SOME PERSPECTIVE"

Top post and I also agree with the OP about the amount of people moaning about things and this transfer window in particular.

Re: "SOME PERSPECTIVE"

The time to judge will be in May.

A lot can happen between then and now - hopefully a Wolves wobble, a Villa slide, a Derby slip up, and a City surge

Excellent po :bluescarf: st, nice to see a bit of realism. On top of that we’ve now got half a dozen players with the potential to pull something out of the bag. In Slade’s day we had no one.
