“ OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: CARDIFF CITY COMPLETE LOAN SWAP “

Wed Jan 31, 2018 11:16 pm

Cardiff City Football Club are delighted to confirm the loan signing of Jamie Ward from Nottingham Forest.

The 31-year-old joins the Bluebirds for the remainder of the 2017/18 season, subject to international clearance.

The deal sees Lee Tomlin move in the opposite direction, with his loan deal with the Reds also running until the end of the current campaign. We wish Lee all the very best during his time at the City Ground.

Jamie began his career at Aston Villa, before making his name at Torquay United and Chesterfield - where he scored 31 goals in 74 games for the Spireites.

The forward continued to impress at Sheffield United and Derby County, before signing for Forest in July 2015. A Northern Ireland international, Jamie has over 30 caps to his name and played in all four of their matches at the UEFA Euro 2016 Finals.

Upon the completion of the deal, Neil Warnock spoke to cardiffcityfc.co.uk, saying: “I’ve always liked Jamie.

“I think his attitude is fantastic - he’s quick, dynamic and can play anywhere across the attacking line.

“I think Lee [Tomlin] needs a run of games and he has more chance of that at Nottingham Forest. The manager knows him and he’s played well under him in the past. We’d like to wish him well while at the City Ground.”

Ward signs, Tomlin gone!

Great Window, let's hope Warnock gets the best out of Ward, great to have a decent squad and some choice again after all of those injuries.

Onwards and upwards, let's give it a big push for Automatic Promotion :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Did we really need ward? Let them have tomlin by all means but ward? Guess it makes Feeney look a more important squad player

I suppose it makes up the numbers up front but cant see how he would be anything other than 4th choice striker

Absolutely agree what a terrible transfer policy by the club

Ward is a sub player and fits more into warnock side than tomlin did.

Surely we have somone in the academy to be a squad reserve rather than waste more wages, I don't even see a place for ward on the bench ... baffleing

loan deal makes sense if Lee is not getting games here and still lives in Leicester, also means if Ward is not up to standard we can offload him

Just what we needed another winger. That makes it 8 now. Hoilett, Mendez-Laing, Harris, Wildschut, Feeney, Paterson, Ward and Pilkington. 31 years old and couldn't hack it at Forest, would rather we'd kept Tomlin, at least when he came on he changed games Norwich, Sheff Wed, Reading etc.

Play them all with Bamba to keep em out, and we will get shit loads of crosses in for Madine

With all these wingers I'm struggling to see how they are gonna get on the bench tbh. What was the point of extending Feeney's loan as we now have Hoilett, Mendez-Laing, Harris, Wildshut, Paterson, Feeney, Ward and Pilkington. Would rather have kept Tomlin at least he offered something different when he came on and was the only creative technical player we had. I feel Forest have defo had the better end of this deal.

Warnock knows more about the situation than all of us.

It could be for all sorts of reasons, he wanted him gone, maybe it was fir the balance of the team, maybe for attitude, maybe for the benefit of the dressing room:

Warnock will know why and that’s good enough for me !

agree. early days but it hasn't worked out with tomlin yet and so he is dispensable. signing ward and madine will no doubt inject new energy into this team.

Don't be too hard on yourself, fella! ;) :laughing6:

As good a January Transfer Window as we've had in a long while and the players signed up will enhance the team/squad, as well as those wo are joining the Under 23's :thumbright:

The outgoing (Tomlin) makes perfect sense after explanation that it is a 'loan' to get him up to match fitness and it may be he steps up to the mark for the Forest before returning next season.

I still think he can make a difference, if fit :ayatollah:

Tomlin wasn’t going to play for us in the second half of the season, that was clear. Makes sense to loan him out.

Jamie Ward can play anywhere across the front three, and I think he’ll be useful for us. Was a great player at Derby, so hopefully Warnock can bring that form back to him.

I can remember him scoring a goal for Sheffield United against us and running past the bob bank mocking us doing the ayatollah!! At least he won't need any of our boys to show him what to do!!

Has it been good though?

Extending the loan of a winger who hasn’t done anything so far.
A winger from Norwich who can’t get in their team - good 20 minutes against Sheffield Wed and then went AWOL. Could prove to be good.
A midfielder from Liverpool with potential - but not the complete centre midfield we were supposedly after
A winger from Notts Forest - who again can’t get in their team despite their rocky season so far and hasn’t done anything at this leave for a few years apart from ‘work hard’
A lump of a striker, with a questionable attitude off the pitch and whilst he has scored for Bolton in the last 18 months, hasn’t done much else anywhere.

At the same time, we’ve got rid of a player who can offer a real difference to anything else we have and now a striker who had energy and showed he was capable of scoring when given a chance.

Meanwhile teams around us have added genuinely quality and goals for this level - Villa have got Grabban, Fulham have just signed Mitrovic and Wolves have got Adobe back.

Time will tell, but it doesn’t feel like a great window.

This was a real uninspiring transfer window, you can hardly get excited about the final push for promotion. Hopefully the players that come in will do the job.

Patterson isn’t a winger, Pilkington is being used as a striker, Harris isn’t fit, nml is looking absolutely dire

And Patterson is being played in the center

Happy with our business up until yesterday with the two coming in... but yesterday's business was, in my opinion, an absolute joke. Total disaster.
