Grabban deal didn't happen because putting it politely was a greedy b*stard. Warnock wants players who want to play for him.
Wed Jan 31, 2018 9:20 pm
And we want players hungry to play for us. I’m happy with Madine. We have added a player scoring goals in this league who has been involved with promotion winning sides before. It will take the pressure off ken being the sole realistic strikerand give him competition. Maybe even a partner.
Bogle is unproven at our level. Ward is long term injured. Pilks runs around a lot but is hardly prolific.
Let’s keep getting behind them and support them to the end. I hope we can give Bolton some more cash in a few months!

It was clear that he was holding out until the end of the window to see if he could get a better deal than we were offering him.
Yes he's a greedy b*stard and no doubt his agent will have been in his ear telling him how great he is and to hold out for as long as possible but in that he's no different to 99% of professional footballers.
He's not coming here for whatever reason so f**k him as far as I'm concerned.

I don’t really see what’s wrong with it tho, except it feels personal when it’s your club I guess

In what way is he greedy? I thought as a loan he could only get his wage covered?

I guess that he could have come here before that on a permenant at lower wages but he held out to see what he could get elsewhere
Makes sense really

Yes it's our club and some fans in meltdown because we didn't sign him!

Yes I agree with you and we've had quite a few over the years who've looked like they're signing only to leg it at the first sniff of a better offer.
Take a bow Marcus Bent and that tw*t Jody Morris!

villa offered what he wanted and he's gone to the biggest club in the league. no need for sour grapes.....
at this level of football, i don't really begrudge a player taking the best financial offer, but i do agree, if a player signs purely for money the buying club should be wary.

He’s gone to villa on loan lol

At his age probably his last big contract no issues at all.
I’m happier with Madine. Only have to look at Wood for Leeds/Burnley to see how a big guy terrifies defences. Grabban has pace and once he loses that he will be a no trick pony.

I thought this all along. On loan to Sunderland, training on his own, obviously looking to cash in on his next move,,,,.

If I was moving job, I would choose the better company who offered me the most money. Villa ate way bigger than us and above us in the league. I don't see what he's done wrong. I'm disappointed we didn't get him but I don't have sour grapes about it.

Renaged on a deal last Friday with further obtuse demands.
Not so much sour grapes as a realisation that some footballers are mercenary.

I thought as much football has gone nuts some stupid money being payed just to kick a football bloody ridiculous even at championship level 20k a week is to much and in the prem 350k and more a week is pathetic.
The FA and UEFA need to sort this out as its just not right .
Ok let em have a good wage but this is a piss take.
I new grabbon was a grabbing b*stard.
Football been heading this way for years where does it stop its blackmail pay me X or ill go else where that will.
Bollocks to him then good on city
Thu Feb 01, 2018 7:58 am
I said this yesterday, now makes sense, says he will sign last week then wants more. no sour grapes here and fair play to the club for not giving in to him.
Go get 'em Madine.

It’s not a piss take though, why are they not entitled to the money?

Annis after discussions we were not interested in him. He's not well liked at the club by staff or players and has terrible attitude.

So, was he coming in on loan or as a purchase? Your comment suggests the latter, Steve

He's best off up there if it's about money. He played for Sunderland another great club and deserted them so not necessarily going to work at Villa for him?
Madine our type of player and hopefully hits the ground running at Leeds. Ward always played well against us and will give 100%.
As for Tomlin only on loan and needs to get his head right, fitness and that court case out of his mind a change of place will help. Bogle and Camp need games another good bit of business in the circumstances.
I might be a bit old in the tooth but not a bad window for us and looking forward to seeing the 4 new players contribute to our promotion push.
Thu Feb 01, 2018 9:03 am
With Grabban, it was as much about his attitude as anything else. He wasn’t liked.
I think the window has been absolutely fine.
Thu Feb 01, 2018 5:40 pm
I'm not sure that money would have come into it. he is contracted to play for Bournemouth on X amount per week. If he was loaned out, it would be up to Bournemouth to negotiate with the other club as to how much of the players wages they would pay. I doubt that either Cardiff or Villa would have been in a position to pay the full wages of a PL player. Bournemouth would then have subsidised the difference. Grabban would receive the same, no matter how much Villa/Cardiff or whoever were contributing.
Personally, I think you've dodged a bullet. The way you play is not suited to Grabban's style as he is not an out and out number 9 and is not able to play the Laing/Holiett role either. As far as we're concerned, I'm also a bit underwhelmed. I felt we needed an out and out number 9 to improve us. We are very light on the ground up front and needed cover. Currently, I cannot see Grabban replacing Hogan up front so the signing is one of cover only, as far as I'm concerned.
Fulham and Wolves both appear to have signed strikers who will improve them straight away.

People have to except footballers like the rest of us chase money....that’s why we can’t get sentimental about them......yes whitts stayed but prob because he was earning excessive wages.....
Not many want to play for the badge...money talks...

I said all along he is a lazy mercenary who I didn't want here and I'm pleased he's joined Villa instead. We don't want players of his character at our club.

What are your thoughts on Madine? I’m happy. I reckon we could sell him for a lot if we don’t go up. Gonna score a few for us.

They are entitled to money just not as much as some command or are on

Has anyone conformed a bid was actually put in (Eddie Howe says not) or or actual loan deal was (even almost) agreed with Grabban and/or Bournemouth?

I first noticed Madine playing for Sheffield Wednesday and to be honest, I'm still undecided. I haven't seen him play enough, his career and goal scoring record is hardly inspiring to justify us paying a big fee. The realistic target man I wanted us to sign was Derby's Chris Martin, who has now gone to Reading on loan. However, I watched a few Youtube videos of Madine's goals and he definitely gets in the box and he isn't afraid to stick his head in.
My early impressions are Madine will be a brave, courageous, hard working target man who will hold the ball up well, but I don't think he is the most mobile. I think his game will largely revolve around staying in the middle as opposed to running the channels. I think he will largely play with his back to goal, occupy the centre backs, hold the ball up, lay it off and then get in the box for the cross.
I think Madine's game will suit our playing style with us getting the ball forward quickly and it will be up to Madine to hold the ball up and link the play. We will be more of a threat with set pieces and long throws with Madine in the team, but will he improve us enough for the fee we have supposedly splashed out for him? I'm currently unsure, we will just have to get behind him and wait and see.
