Transfer Gossip: Cardiff City agree deal with Bolton Wanderers for Gary MadineBy Eddie SkellyThe news Wanderers fans really didn’t want to hear.
According to HITC writer Peter O’Rourke, Bolton Wanderers have agreed a deal with Cardiff City for striker Gary Madine.
Neil Warnock’s side had been interested in Gary Madine at the start of the January transfer window, and had two bids rejected.
Cardiff City seemed to have turned his attention away from Madine, with AFC Bournemouth striker Lewis Grabban and Derby County striker Chris Martin the names mentioned.
But, it looks like moves for the pair have hit a wall, so Warnock has targeted Madine once again.
Having had another two bids rejected earlier today, it would seem that Cardiff have finally put forward an amount that Wanderers are happy to accept.
Bolton chairman Ken Anderson said it would take an
‘exceptional’ amount to sell Madine, so let’s hope that is what Wanderers are getting.
Given the fact that Madine is by far the top goalscorer with ten goals and is the focal point of the side, Wanderers surely have a contingency plan in place to properly replace him.
Feyenoord striker Michiel Kramer has been mentioned as a potential target, as has Nottingham Forest youngster Tyler Walker.
The decision to sell Madine could well scupper any chance Wanderers have of staying in The Championship. It’s a ridiculous gamble.
Deadline Day is certainly going to be very interesting...

A signing of desperation. Might keep us up next season in the Championship.

Will always back a signing and see how he performs for us but for me my current feeling is this will be an alright signing but not one to push for top 2 all the way.

Deserves our support, if it happens.
Obviously wouldn’t be anyone’s first choice but all we can do is support him.

Any player deserves our support but disappointing that once again the club have gone for the cheaper option. Like other clubs in and around the top 6 need to show some ambition.

If true, Gary Madine will get my support when he is on the pitch!
Still 24 hours to go and I'm sure the club will be working hard to get at least one more of their targets. It's not only buying clubs that are desperate last day; it's clubs who want players off the wage bill who will be stuck with them for another 5 or 6 months at least, too!

1000% happening, Gary Madine will be unveiled tomorrow.
Apparently, he's won most aerial duels this season and we've put the most crosses into the box this season. We may have a striker that can score with his head!

I have been saying all season we haven’t scored enough from crosses, corners, free kicks and long throws if he is good in the air, he found he right for us ?
Not my first choice, but I have 100% faith in Warnocks judgement, we will soon know !!!
Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:42 pm
When we played them just before Christmas at their place he was a bit of a handful and I left thinking he would be a useful back up at City however he wouldn't be my first choice striker but if he comes he will have my full support

Not sure about that.
Let's not forget that IF (and its a big if) you believe all the rumours that have gone around this month Gary Madine was our first port of call well before any Grabban rumours surfaced.
More a case of finally getting the man Warnock wanted first off.

Says the fee could rise to 6 million! I would take it with a pinch of salt!

Would expect that will include add-ons for amount of goals, appearances and promotion.
The fee probably won’t be disclosed, but can imagine about £2-3m up front.

Don't see why, as he's bagged a decent amount of goals whilst playing in a struggling team and almost single Handedly kept them in with a chance of staying up. He's also only signed a new contract fairly recently and it's obvious from today's reports at least, that we've bid for him.
I'd imagine Bolton would only get anything like the sum mentioned, if we were to get promotion!

I would be very surprised if Tan loosens the purse strings that much to be honest and I think if Warnock had that amount of money to spend, he would be targeting a better striker than Madine. I also think if Tan backed Warnock with those type of funds, we would have secured a couple of quality permanent transfers already by now.
That's just my opinion though of course. I'm very negative at the moment as I haven't been at all impressed with the players we have been linked with and we are still yet to pay a transfer fee to sign a player permanently this transfer window. I don't think Tan has backed Warnock at all and I fear this will not only end our promotion challenge, but will also end Warnock's reign with us after this season.

Cardiff City have agreed a fee rising to £6million for Bolton Wanderers striker Gary Madine, HITC Sport understands.
HITCCardiff have been chasing Madine throughout this month's transfer window and saw their opening two bids rejected by Bolton.
However, with the transfer window set to close on Wednesday Cardiff have come back with an improved offer which could rise to £6million and Bolton have reluctantly accepted it.
Bolton boss Phil Parkinson was keen to keep hold of top scorer Madine, but the offer was too good to turn down and Bolton are now ready to use some of the funds to bring in a replacement.
Madine has scored 10 goals from 28 appearances in the Championship, including one in the win over Cardiff earlier this season.
Having started his career at Carlisle, Madine spent four years at Sheffield Wednesday before joining Bolton in 2015, and he helped them win promotion back to the Championship last season.
Cardiff boss Neil Warnock sees Madine as someone who can score the goals to boost his side's chances of winning promotion to the Premier League.

Interesting thoughts Tonteg, and I'm thinking along the same lines. We will find out soon enough,,,,,.

Quite simply, it’s Financial Fair Play rules. You can’t buy promotion any more , and our crowds are too small to justify any more spending.

As far as I know,Vinnie the Red is still a billionaire.
Basically, he doesn't want to invest substantially in the club and, if we don't get promotion, he will make real efforts to sell.
I'll be amazed if we sign someone like Grabban and why the he'll didn't we get Bodin, who had a great game for Preston last night.

Excuse me? I said I don't know the player, that wasn't written to make a joke. I also said I remember bolton being a good club, it's ok to praise other clubs you know

. As for the other part, I was accused of being a troll on another forum I used for many years which was not football related, why people always think the worst of people. Let's get back to the subject and not divert. I am happy if this goes through we need help up top

Sometimes you look at a player and think to yourself what if say Bristol, Villa, Derby and Fulham signed that player instead, what would you conclude?
If any of those teams had signed him I would have been concerned and thought why can't we!.. He's just what we need by the sound of it, hard working, good in the air and can assist and score goals. The way we are set up and the existing players we got he has to be a good fit. He seems to be the type of player a lot of our fans want, god forbid if we signed someone who didn't run around like a headless chicken.

I don't know what he's thinking. You are right. I want Tan Sri Vincent Tan to spend money as it makes sense. The players won't be ad motivated ad they are right now under Warnock long term. Good post

Not sure why anyone would expect Tan to be splashing the cash. He made it crystal clear a while back that he would return us to blue, but there would be no more big investment in the club, and that his target is to make the club run within it's means. We still have huge debts, have already had experience of being under restrictions because of the FFP rules, and most were happy to accept his conditions if we returned to our traditional colours. He appears to be a man of his word, so we should not really be too surprised knowing there is not a lot of money to spend.

and yet people are quoting 5m for an average striker.
