Kevin De Bruyne Tackle

With all the focus on the Bennett tackle this one seems to have slipped under the radar.

Didn't even see that, couldn't have even got a free kick for it. Would love to see it in the context of the play to really judge it.

Bennett's tackle was cynical and late but no more cynical and late than Fernandinho's on Grujic. More reckless but with considerably less intent. With these top players going at speed across your line in full flight a tenth of a second is the difference between a very good tackle and a very late tackle. I thought at the time he was lucky not to go just for the trip as I perhaps generously saw it.

But crickey players at this level are so precious. They go down with a gust of wind. I don't think I've ever seen so many go down in apparent agony then recover without the aid of the trainers.

What the hell was Sterling up to in first half, awarding himself a free kick for a non existent push. Put right by the referee but he should have been booked for that They may all earn half a million a week but at the moment we still have a referee to make the decisions.

And what a sanctimonious lot their fans and management are. 12 years ago their buying the likes of hatchet man Ben Thatcher. Football hasn't changed as much as they have. Pansies on the pitch and pansies in the seasts.

Brilliant post! It was a cynical foul that resulted in a bad tackle, worthy of a red. However, players make these cynical tackles week in week out and unfortunately Sané was just too quick for Bennett. Unless tacking is outlawed, bad tackles are going to happen - sometimes because players are malicious and sometimes just because the game is quick and mistakes happen.

As you say, Man City fans have short memories - only 18 months ago Aguero tools Luiz out with a knee high karate kick...yet I’ve seen their fans justify it by saying he got a red and was punished...that’s ok then?! That was a hundred times worse as it was and look for more intentional than the Bennett challenge yesterday.
