Joe Bennett Has Just Tweeted
1. Just want to apologise to Leroy Sane for my tackle today. I tried to stop the counter attack and completely mistimed my attempt. 2. I didn't mean to catch him like I did I hope it's nothing serious and he recovers.

Stopped reading after the first two Mancs couldn't spell Allowed and Skilful.

Nathan Blake just said on MOTD 2 that as MC players are quicker in mind and body, that mistimed tackles often end up far worse than intended.
IMHO after watching JB for nearly 2 seasons I think he meant to bring him down, but not injur him.

Come on Joe it was a terrible tackle and a straight Red.

It was, but it was an accident, he meant to trip him, but caught him full on instead, he is lucky he didn't break his leg/ankle.

Joe has apologised what more can he do?

There would be plenty of people moaning if he made no attempt to tackle him and he strolled through and put it in the back of the net. He was just too quick and Joe won’t be the first player to play against Man c and find himself in this predicament.

It’s done know let’s move on.

A certain red (thankfully cannot be one of those retrospective punishments, as the referee dealt with it on the field) but no 'intent to harm' in the tackle itself. However, that doesn't make it excusable and Joe Bennett will have that explained to him by Neil Warnock, who I thought contained his anger in his interview with some witty but pointed comments about "obviously not wanting to go to Leeds next week" and that he will be "putting in some extra training this week"

It's done, he's now banned regardless (thanks to his naive second yellow) and thankfully Sane is not as badly injured as was first indicated (not surprisingly for someone who carried on playing afterwards)

We all move on, Man City go through, some other player gets his chance to impress 'Pep' and hopefully Bennett's replacement will do the same for Cardiff City

Bring on Dirty Leeds; they're our focus now! :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Certain red.
But I'm also certain he tried to trip not connect directly.
Sane just too quick for him

I did my fair share of "tripping" when I played, but used the upper part of my foot or my instep when I was trying to be cute. You would'nt usually go in studs up and half way up a player's shin however fast he is. I don't think he was trying to cause a serious injury, but that is not the way to go into a tackle irrespective of whether you are going for the ball or just trying to trip the player. Luckily no serious damage done, so serve the suspension and learn the lesson.

Sorry Joe but I think they call that denial. What you did was cynical, completely lacking any aspect of control and totally reckless and should of resulted in a straight RED CARD. Thankfully Mane was not seriously injured, but he has been injured because of your lack of control.

Your not the first player to see the red mist come down, and you won't be the last, but please accept that what you did was cynical, lacking control and reckless.

Completely mistimed my attempt my arse.

i would really have been shocked if Mane was injured as he plays for Liverpool... that would have been some bad tackle :laughing6:

If players get booked with a. Yellow or red card in a cup match - I thought that didn't get carried through for the league fixtures?

Anyone who has watched Bennett play will know he's not a malicious player. However, this was a terrible tackle and deserved a red. We lacked discipline : Ralls should never have given away the free -kick they scored from.
Having said that, some of their players were clearly looking for BAFTA s.

9 out of 10 people can see what he was attempting, it was a last ditch attempt to bring the player down (you see that attempt in most games) but sadly sane was that little bit quicker which meant he caught the leg rather than just in front of him.
It's a physical game, poor challenge, would have been red if ref was up with play, but been blown way out of proportion by Pep and media

Me too but I genuinely think he slid in like that to get in front of mane's leg so he would bring him down. Mane pace took him further than Bennett had anticipated so he caught him flush with studs

The speed throughout their team was frightening. Sane with the ball was going away form some of our speedsters. Different ball game.
