Zohore

Is it me or is he looking very lazy?

I know it’s easier said than done against Man City but you can even see all the players shouting at him.

I’m hoping we get grabban in because the sooner we get a striker the better

Probably score a Worldie now

Actually thought he's look sharper than for awhile willing to chase after long balls!

I guess he could have chased the ball at bravos feet every 10 mins or so, but apart from that can't see what else he can do lazy or not

I’m not normally critical of him, but he looks lazy to me. He’s ok to hold the ball up if it’s passed right to his feet, but he doesn’t have any fight in him to go past a player or be the first to the ball. That’s just my opinion though.

Must have been watching a different game to me, I thought he ran the channels, held the ball up well and brought others into the game. And did his best with limited amount of the ball.

Why can't we accept players that have a bit of quality and not ones that have to constantly run their-selves into the ground.

If he chased down the keeper and centre backs all the time he would have been ruined in 20 mins. Impossible job for him today.

Not really. He put in that effort for the Villa game and as soon as Hoilett and Mendez-Laing see Zohore chasing, they would have squeezed up and pressured their full backs. Our midfield would have then seen that and squeezed up further; then suddenly as a team, we collectively stop Man City walking the ball out at a leisurely pace to construct attack after attack time and time again!

That’s the frustrating thing for me, Zohore can put a shift in when he wants to, but today he just went back to his old lazy self going through the motions. I think Claudio Bravo worked his way up to the holding midfield position for 5 minutes in the second half passing the ball back and fore with their centre backs. It was totally embarrassing!

As soon as Pilkington came on, he competes, we pick up the scraps and then Hoilett gets a shot off. We suddenly have Pilkington and our 2 wingers pushing up for their goal kicks to stop them playing out from the back. Basically, we started doing all the things we didn’t have the confidence to do with the lazy Zohore on the pitch!

Comparing playing Villa to playing Man City.

At the end of the day no-one else was pressing with Zohore so why should he be pressuring City's defence when they just knock it off and the whole of the midfield are 20 yards behind him.

I don't see why Paterson was getting so much praise for telling Zohore to press when Paterson only pressed when the crowd became restless with it, wasn't like he was pressing constantly all game.

Villa don't have the players like Man city though the comparison is nonsense surely you know that?
You can't compare this game to any we have played because we havent played a team like this before.

Pilks only has 20mins to run around, I'm sure if Zohore only had to come on at the end he could have done the same.

It doesn’t matter what teams I’m comparing, it just comes down to basic effort, work rate, attitude, hunger and desire. Things Zohore clearly didn’t show today unfortunately.

How can Paterson (or Ralls, or Grujic, or Damour when he came on) press when their centre backs could carry the ball into our half and thread balls through to De Bruyne etc without being put under any pressure? Whatever standard of the opponents, it’s obviously more difficult to play against a team in your face constantly pressuring you.

Re: Zohore

Because the midfielders had people alongside them helping close down, they didn't have anywhere near the ground to cover. Zohore was alone to close down a back 4 and a keeper.

Yeah our midfield would have all pushed up and we would have got fiddly faddling murdered

I’m sure the Wolves/Bristol City/Newport players will all agree with you Paul.

I’m sure they’re all glad you’re not in charge of their teams either.

I though everything considered he had a pretty reasonable game. Holds up quite well when played into feet. Distribution was a bit off. Very unlucky in the first half, turned Kompany brilliantly only to be pulled back for a foul when clear . Never a foul, terrible decision.

when the ball was at his feet he did very well, had two decent chances in the second half, should have put the first one on target though.

He was reserving his energy and keeping it when we had the ball that way he could try and run in behind and run the channels which he did, Warnock has noted this.
