Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick has re-emerged as a top Cardiff City transfer target with Neil Warnock keen to get his final January deal done.

It is understood Bluebirds talks with Bournemouth forward Lewis Grabban reached a standstill, so McGoldrick — a reported target earlier in the month — has come back onto their radar.

The Republic of Ireland international is valued for his versatility and his contract at Portman Road expires at the end of the season.

He has started 17 league games for Ipswich this season, scoring six times and contributing four assists.

It is thought the Tractor Boys could be willing to listen to offers for McGoldrick as they're set to lose him for free at the end of the season.

He knows this will probably be his last big contract and he also knows if he stays at Ipswich until end of season in all likelihood he will get a good contract and a good signing on fee as there will be no fee involved.

I can see us overpaying here. But..... in Warnock I trust.

We won't match them because he's a back up plan by the look of things, if we really wanted him, he would be here, thats not to say he won't end up here if we don't get other targets.

Warnock has always said he is talking to five Strikers.

I’d say leave it, we can only afford what we can afford this has been dragging out too long. I know there are negotiations etc but if he doesn’t want what is on offer move on secure the next target.

He’s griddling teebay anyway. We’re allegedly going for promotion, not fighting relegation.

If that's the standard NW is after then promotion is not the club's aim. Just give Healey & Bogle opportunities and save money.
If he doesn't want to play for us then why bother signing him? He's not good enough to wait around for.
