A host of Championship clubs want to make a move for Cardiff City midfielder Anthony Pilkington this January.



Cardiff City winger Pilkington will be allowed to leave the Welsh club in the transfer window and the likes of Barnsley, Bolton Wanderers and Ipswich Town are keen on bringing him to their club.

Pilkington is out of favour under Neil Warnock and he failed to make a move away from Cardiff in the summer, despite being told that he was surplus to requirements.

He has managed just three outings for the Bluebirds this season and his future at Cardiff looks bleak.

As a result, a January move could be on the cards with several Championship clubs – including Barnsley, Bolton and Ipswich – weighing up offers.

The 9-cap Republic of Ireland international plays predominantly as a winger but he has been deployed as a central midfielder, attacking midfielder and a centre forward in the past.

The 29-year-old joined Cardiff in 2014 having previously represented the Stockport County, Norwich City and Huddersfield Town.

Pilkington has a total of 19 goals in just over 100 matches for Cardiff City but his time in South Wales looks to be up.












The Verdict

Anthony Pilkington is still a reliable Championship performer and he would be an asset for any mid-table to lower Championship side.

At 29, he still has a few years left in him but his wages may be a stumbling offer.

A loan move or a permanent deal could be struck and Ipswich, Bolton and Barnsley could all benefit from his creativity and goal threat from midfield.

Can't agree that he's a great player at this level- he's basically a winger who has no pace and is incapable of beating his man. Certainly isn't a striker. Average Championship player.

Pilkington certainly had potential but it has never really come to fruition because as you point out he just simply doesn't have a natural position in the forward line.

I believe Ipswich want a fee for him, even though his contract is up in the summer!!

NW wants a fee for Pilks and off the wage bill so depends who wants what etc.

May go nowhere but McCarthy appears to like our cast offs hmm
