CARDIFF CITY FA CUP MEMORIES

Sat Jan 06, 2018 12:53 pm

Sad to see how the FA Cup now is. For me, it's produced some of my best memories watching Cardiff City.

Leeds at home will always be a special moment and my favourite ever away trip was the quarter final against 'Boro. I would say the best moment for me watching Cardiff was listening to 'Abide With Me' being belted out at Wembley while the Bluebirds lined up for the FA Cup Final. Younger generation won't get that, but dreaming of this growing up watching it every year was a special moment.

Please share your Cardiff City FA Cup memories and hopefully we can have some more soon. See you later.

For some reason I always remember Chasetown away.

A proper FA Cup tie at a small ground with fans sitting in trees and looking over fences to watch the game. Thats what the FA Cup is all about

Two bad ones spring to mind. Losing 2-0 at home to Brentford who were in the bottom division when we were flying high in the same division as now, and I seem to remember us losing at home to Bath but can't remember the score or anything about the game.

Man city home was a good day
I think Nathan Blake scored
Cracking goal top corner :bluescarf:

Easy one to answer Arsenal 1969/70 season my first ever City game 0-0 draw 57,000 crowd being small didn’t see much of the game but was hooked.

Steve I expected nothing but some bad memories from you, amongst all that negativity and doom and gloom can you dig out one good memory?

I enjoyed the cup run of 2008 when I attended every game in every round. From chasetown to Wembley.

My first cup game as a kid was city va Gloucester, the older lads will help me out but I remember being 2 down with minutes to go and Gareth Abraham scored an equaliser and it was bedlam. That was the one that hooked me, my dad didn't like sport was looking at me on my seat in disbelief. I never looked back.

Don't have many bad memories of FA Cup ties, that's why the two bad ones stick in my mind. I can dig out a good memory now you ask, I had a cracking curry after the Brentford defeat, I think it was the first time I had sampled a vindaloo. Could'nt fault it.

Peterborough away when our fans left the away end behind the goal and ran into the Boro terrace at half time.

Worst part is and people will not like to hear this but we have to listen to Neil Warnock saying before the game he loves the FA Cup, what a load of s**t you can't come out with that and get a result like we did today, that goes for other managers who claim they love the FA Cup, they really don't.

Too much at stake riding on the league with the income so cups don't get enough respect, fact.

Impossible now TopCat, with everything at stake in the league the cups will always be looked down on.

Your probably right DAN - But something has to be done in either money or some kind or reward for a club who wins this .

Back many moons ago as kids we looked forward to this event as part of life LEAGUE & CUP WINNERS ,were the 2 winners.

Agree, people will say look at teams like United and City fielding strong teams and for me it's all good saying that but I feel even when the bigger teams field strong teams you don't see the effort and desire you do from them like you do in a league match.

Sorry but there was plenty of FA cup excitement today, Its club fans like us who say that its not what it used to be. Get your arses off the sofa and support your team and then you might get some great memories.

Love your desire but your lying to yourself if you think there was plenty of excitement today.

Wokingham away in 1982. Was posted in Arborfield just down the road, a memorable day when city took over the ground. :bluescarf: A draw but more memories of the off pitch events. :o

Peter Sayer’s goal against Tottenham and then watching it on match of the day for weeks as it was used in their opening sequence.
Strangely, the following round defeat at home against Everton is more of a vivid memory. Going one nil up and then eventually losing two one. Great atmosphere :ayatollah:

I agree with the posts about Wokingham away and both of the games against Tottenham and Everton.

One of the good trips even though we lost was the replay away at Arsenal on a cold dark night at Highbury, there were a couple of us there that night :bluescarf:

Possibly the worst was the defeat at home by Weymouth after being 2-0 up at half time!!!!!!

I remember the matches against the likes of Tottenham, Leeds, Man City, etc., but it is the unexpected defeats against lower league opposition that stick in my mind even more. I always hope and half expect Cardiff to pull off a shock in the cup, but I never anticipate teams like Bath beating us. I walk away from the ground feeling stunned when it is us who have been on the wrong end of a major upset. The Man City cup game and Blake's goal stick in my mind, but it was Luton in the next round that sticks in my mind even more. I really thought we were heading for the last eight after being drawn at home again, and after seeing off Man C in the fourth round, and was absolutely gutted to see us lose 2-1 to Luton and have our dreams ended after such a great run.

Outside Wembley meeting Chopra, he was mobbed! He loved it though.

Then the feeling walking out of Wembley after losing to Pompey, such a downer. Shit journey home.

I remember that game, it was actually Morrys Scott who scored twice in the last couple of minutes to send the fastly dwindling crowd mental, think he also got the winner in the replay too.

Also remember a 2-2 defeat at Exeter under Durban and City storming the pitch after the match trying to seek access to the City dressing room!
