Cardiff City interested in loan move for Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton – reports
By Callum Ellis
Cardiff City have expressed an interest in signing Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton on loan as Neil Warnock looks to bolster his squad.
According to a number reports, the Bluebirds are currently looking to bring in the 28-year-old, who has only made 13 league appearances so far this season.
The former Huddersfield midfielder is also yet to feature under new manager Tony Pulis, which suggests he could be on his way out of the Riverside.
And with Warnock currently on the look out for a central-midfielder following Aron Gunnarsson’s lengthy injury, Clayton could prove to be the perfect option.
However, the Bluebirds are reportedly facing competition from a number of Championship clubs, who have all shown shown an interest in the Englishman’s services.
With Aston Villa, Derby County, Leeds United and Sunderland all said to be in the hunt for the former Huddersfield midfielder.
Cardiff owner, Vincent Tan has already stated that the club will not spend “silly money” during the transfer window, which is why a loan move for Clayton would be more beneficial.
Following the Bluebirds’ disastrous festive period which saw them fall to four consecutive defeats, Warnock will be hoping to freshen up his current squad of players.
And Clayton’s Championship experience would be a huge benefit for the Bluebirds in their push for promotion to the top-flight this season.
Clayton has already worked under Warnock the Yorkshireman during his time at Elland Road, although he was made available for transfer at the end of the 2011/12 campaign.
The 28-year-old, however, may be put off by a January move to South Wales following his previous rejection by the Yorkshireman.

Wez, I agree. Good engine and a decent passer.
Be happy if we signed him.

I agree but I just wonder if Warnock didn't fancy him at Leeds why would he fancy him for us ?
I know there may be other factors that we don't know about but that issue makes me a bit wary of this rumour.

I'd be happy with this , if it happens. Lots of rumours flying around, so it's hard to tell.

Type of player I’d like to see shows abit of ambition at the club to although I don’t know why Boro would sell to a rival?

I thought the same but read that he hasn’t been in the squad for any games since Pulis arrival. I’d be happy to see us sign him and Bamford from Boro

Adam Clayton??
Warnock has clearly been looking for players in areas where the streets have no name!
Have seen him play. Solid, and has the ability to step up for the big occasions!!
