“ Have you forgiven Vincent Tan? “

Wed Jan 03, 2018 4:35 pm

Just a simple question.

Have you forgiven Vincent Tan for the rebrand? There’s been a number of topics on our owner over the last few days and a lot of differing views.

So, have you forgiven him and the reasons why or why not?

I'll start by saying I voted 'Yes' in the absence of a 'Have you simply decided to let it go and move on?' option ;)

Lots of water under the bridge and whilst I'd not use the word 'forgive' (that would be to totally diss the damage that was undeniably done at the time) it is gone, the club has started to stabilise, the owner appears to have learned, the management/coaching team are as good as we've had for a long time and (most of) the fans have moved on in an effort to move forward rather than look backward

Exciting times ahead from Cardiff City FC and that's where our focus should be! :thumbright: :ayatollah:

The part I can't forget is the way he spoke about the blue fans being easy replaced. The famous '5%'. The way he spoke about us in a few TV interviews was asif if we were dirt.

Re: “ Have you forgiven Vincent Tan? “

In my humble opinion, he made a mistake, said some things he shouldn't have and he has rectified those now, i.e. back in blue and playing well. Time to move on. If you cannot forgive and forget then support someone else.

The only ones that are being hurt are the club and yourselves.

To put it into another context, a young member of my family was killed by a speeding drink driver, at first I was angry, vengeful but now I have forgiven a young man who made a terrible mistake that he has to live with, so I can certainly move on from the VT mistake. He hasn't killed anybody and maybe just broken a few memories and heartstrings. :bluescarf: :ayatollah: :bluebird:

Yes i have and the reason is simple. Regardless how we feel about our club, football is a business, he is in business and time to time you get things wrong.

He knows that and is trying to rectifiy his mistake. End of story, leave it rest bloobirds

As l don’t go down anymore then l guess l wold have to say no,but is he entirely to blame for my non attendance then that would be no also as there are many reasons for my decision

Yes I have :ayatollah:

I missed 5 seasons due to the rebrand but time heals and without Vinny there would be no club or a club in the 4th division as we were not so long ago.

Time to get behind the club and owner

There was no club with tan.he shut them down for 2 and a half years and replaced Cardiff city AFC the bluebirds with Cardiff dragons the red brigade.

Some good posts on here including this and op
Everybody on this board in life have made mistakes and looked for forgiveness
VT has reversed the decision and if we as club supporters in my opinion keep grating on with this will put more supporters off the club and the much discussed topic on this board of falling attendances will not improve matters
C'mon bluebirds and all get behind our club :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

What a spiffingly fine time to ask this yet again. Queue the haters. Makes me wonder if some people have the interests of Cardiff City at heart or the endless pursuit of hits means anything is fair game.

I don't think you can ever forget but forgiveness is not difficult for anyone. Some above mentions a sad story of a speeding drink driver. Now that is something I think I would struggle to forgive. The context here is quite vast, football is massive but it's not life. VT has learned and changed us back. Slight niggle with the weird dragon on our badge but small compromises are needed sometimes....

The future looks good. Debt free would be amazing!

He's a businessman who made a mistake trying to operate in a field he knew nothing about.

He's learnt a harsh lesson and to me is adapting so yes I can move on.

Just depends on your viewpoint! Some will never forgive him regardless of what he does or happens at club while he's still here? Most it's let's move on its history were back in blue what more is there? Personally no interest in tan he's an owner like the many we've had in past 45yrs I've supported club! its just the team I'm interested in

Interesting replies.

My answer is NO. He alienated the supporters, and certain comments he made showed him up for the man he is. There’s also the fact that when it was opposed he said it wasn’t going to happen, but then went ahead with it.

What I will say is credit to him for reversing it. That was a big thing as I always had him down as a stubborn man, and it’s always a big deal when a businessman goes back on a major decision.

He’s also made three genuinely good appointments. Dalman, Ken Choi

But I can’t find it in my heart to forgive him, that’s not out of choice.

There are thousands of fans who abandoned the club because of his decision and many of them haven’t returned - that may happen when he sells up. But I can’t see him getting the money he wants until if and when we’re in the Premier League.

But some of those fans that have left will never come back. They feel they were forced away from the club and have now found other hobbies.

Just my opinion of course, but that’s how I feel about it all.

Why is this a bad time? A bit of a break before our next league game and there’s been plenty of Tan topics since he came to watch a few games.

well if these many thousands had actually protested on day 1 and kept it going instead of just pumping gums on internet maybe the man from Malaysia might have looked differently upon it..
its only 5%...thats how it looked to me at the time too.there was very little resistence
lots of people mortally offended but could not be arsed to march from the castle....

sadly no, I cannot forgive, not because im spiteful, but because since that day, I have lost something with regards to the club, I still love Cardiff don't get me wrong, and since the rebrand I have boycotted, its not had any effect but one day when he's gone I can atleast say I did my part, but I have noticed "I wouldn't say my love has diminished" but I've lost that spark of excitement whenever they played, maybe its because I haven't been back to the stadium, but something is missing for me, and I hold him responsible for that.

Spot on.

I would rather move on than be a bitter person. I'm all for what's best for the club going forward rather than my own agenda.

Re: “ Have you forgiven Vincent Tan? “

Wed Jan 03, 2018 8:39 pm

Yes of course
Made a calamitous mistake which will cost him tens of millions, also employed many who were also not football men again costing him dear.
Unfortunately it could have been so different but I don't think it's in his nature to accept some of the decisions which he has had to rescind.
Only a matter of time before he departs and i believe it will help us as a club move forward if the right owner can be found.
Credit to him getting the books straight, many would have not.

putting the rebrand to one side (which i don't forgive him for), how many owners do 'laps of honour'? pretty much only tan. i don't want an owner who wants attention and craves the fans chanting his name. he knows next to nothing about football, which is fine if he leaves footballing matters to football people, but instead he has made key footballing decisions which have cost the club huge amounts of money.

in short, he is not a fit and proper person to run a club.
