Former Cardiff City favourite Fabio da Silva has asked to leave Middlesbrough, according to boss Tony Pulis.

The full-back was not named in Boro’s matchday squad for the trip to Preston yesterday, and could now be on the move this month.

There clearly aren’t any hard feelings, with the former Manchester United man taking to Instagram to post the following message.

I loved watching him play but unless we're about to lose a full back I don't think we need him.

Peltier, Richards, Bennett and Paterson are good and I can't see any of them leaving anytime soon, although there are question marks over the fitness of Peltier and Richards that could change things.

I actually think Fabio would fit in well if Warnock switches to a back 3, the thought of him and Bennett going forward would certainly provide some pace.

Afraid the politically correct brigade will manage to find offence with nearly everything said if they search and think hard enough.

No we don't need full backs why would we pay a fee and use transfer funds for fabio? Striker and midfielder have to be priority surely?

I was always a huge Fabio fan but unless we are planning on playing wingacks I don’t think he is the type of fullback Warnock wants. He already doesn’t know what to do with Patterson so don’t see how he would fit this set up at all. Also don't think his wages would fit into our structure. I would think he has a club lined up abroad.

His contract is up in the summer mind so surely he would be fairly cheap. Would pay up to 750k for Fabio cause his style of play can always bring a spark to a boring game and get the crowd going again. Loved him while he was here and was gutted when we sold him! I know we don't necessarily need him, but a player of his quality becoming available and seemingly wanting out of his club and on the cheap, we would be mad not to atleast enquire. I'd offer him a reasonable contract with a real promotion incentive. Could also make the step up!

It would be interesting to see fabio overlapping Mendez . The opposition right backs would be bricking it coming up against those two.

A massive no from me, defensively he is shocking and positionally inept

Loved Fabio for his passion, work rate and attacking qualities and hypothetically I’d like him back if we played the wing back system but I’d have to say no as we need players in other positions more.
