NEIL WARNOCK: TEAM FOR MANSFIELD GAME

“I’m still going to pick my strongest team, the fittest lads are going to play, because I like the FA Cup and I want to get through.”

“We’ve had a flu symptoms bug but I’m sure we’re going to put a strong side out, it’s just a bit chaotic.”

“I used to call it emergency ward 10, we’re that thin on the ground! We’ve got to get 7 subs and an 11 on the team-sheet. I’m not telling you the players who have got the flu.”

Cardiff are likely to make several changes for the cup clash, with the news outlet highlighting fringe players who might find themselves getting minutes against the Stags.

Among the names is the experienced quartet of Greg Halford, Craig Bryson, Anthony Pilkington and Lee Tomlin, which some might suggest isn't a bad bunch of players to be able to fall back on.

City have 10 injuries including Peltier and Gunnarsson.

Annis.
As a season ticket holder for many many years and who regularly attends matches, after the last 4 games of s**t I think i'll give this one a miss. About time the club offered me games like this as part of my season ticket.
Mansfield will be relishing playing us in our current form!
I'll be back for Sunderland though and give them my full support again. Be lucky to get 5,000 for Mansfield now

They are on a 5 game unbeaten run.
Well placed in the play off places in league 2 and are full of co fidence coming to a championship team on a awfhl run of form and are likely to rest a lot of first team players.

Its got banana skin all over it.

This will be a very tough game and we will need some steel in midfield to cope with a physical league 2 team.

I think mansfield may cause a upset which i wont be too bothered about as we need to concentrate on the league and get everyone fit.

I would play 4411

Camp

Coxe
Connolly(c)
Halford
Richards

Kadeem harris ( if fit )
Waite
Pilkington
Tomlin

Bogle
Healey

 maybe!

I think he should start the u23 team against Mansfield except for the players needing game time for their fitness etc like Tomlin.
Also, if we bring in a couple of new players this would be a good game for them to start in a City shirt.

If I was NW I would look to treat Mansfield with respect. Use this game to regain confidence in some of their first team. Now I wouldn't play all of the first team but I would go with this

Coxe
Manga
Bamba
Paterson
Demour
Halford
Tomlin
Mendez Laing
Harris

Would say show Mansfield respect because I think we should try and win, but can't say Warnock doing it.

The last fixture between the two sides was in 2003 and City won 1v0 with Robert Earnshaw getting the winner. How we could do with a finisher like him now. The interesting thing to also note was that the attendance that day was 13,009. Not bad for Div 2 game. I would like to see a mixed side with a good number of first teamers included. Zohore in particular could do with another game. Getting out of the losing habit is important so I hope there is a positive approach to the match. My worry is that another defeat will just heap unnecessary pressure on the team for Sunderland. A fifth league defeat then, a distinct possibility, would make recovering a promotion push this season very, very hard.

All of a sudden this game is a bit different. On the back of 4 defeats NW will want to get back on track ASAP so I think he will play as strong a side as he cam muster. If we'd had taken 10pts in our last 4 games you may have seen a reserve side but not now.

I think it will be 5-1 to City and Tomlin will be charged by FA for eating a burger in the dug out :laughing6:

its a good point...depends really whether the manager puts the poor run down mostly to confidence..or players injured/too many games / fatigue.

Agree with the above comments that this has banana skin written all over it.

Can see a weakened side being put out. Maybe players like Pilkington, Tomlin and Camp will play to help with match fitness.

But my prediction is a 0-1 defeat.

Warnock was actually asked about team selection for the CUP in that Q and A at the CCS.
his reply was along the lines of sell me 20k tickets and ill field my strongest team. clearly not intending to.
what might change that is if he now thinks a confidence boost is the priority ..of course its football so that could go wrong too.

No dilly dallying this time because what Warnock did v Burton was an embarrassment to watch.

If you are going to play a second string at least make it a team that complements each other in the midfield areas.

STAGS TEAM NEWS:

With a virus sweeping through the squad, Evans is likely to make changes to the starting line-up that took to the field to take on Carlisle United on Monday.

How much that has impacted on the squad remains to be seen but the Stags will be without Zander Diamond (concussion) and Joel Byrom (fitness) for Saturday.

There is one positive, however, with Danny Rose back in training following a hip injury and Evans has said the forward is in contention for the trip to Cardiff.

UPDATED

Long-term injuries to Lee Peltier and Matthew Connolly have worsened Cardiff City's injury problems as Neil Warnock also revealed a bout of flu has decimated his squad this week.

The Bluebirds - already without Danny Ward, Sean Morrison and Aron Gunnarsson - continue to have no luck on the injury front with Kadeem Harris suffering a set-back on his comeback trail.

NEIL WARNOCK:

“We seem to be going from one crisis to another at the moment. I thought we’d get a number back and yet we’ve lost more.”

“Since last week Lee Peltier is going to have an operation and will be out for a month. Connolly has damaged a muscle and he’ll out for a month as well. Kadeem Harris has had an injection in a groin situation - nothing to do with his injury - so that’s a disappointment as well. It’s actually his hip not his groin. “

“Jazz Richards is fit, so that’s a plus.”

“I just hope they don’t find anything else like with Kadeem they did with Gunnarsson. We’ve got to hope it’s just a straightforward operation. Connolly has done two muscles in his calf, two little tears which will take four weeks. Kadeem is training well and we’re hoping this injection clears it up.”

I’m going with 3 of my brothers, 1 of my daughters and 2 friends. It doesn’t make any difference to me that Warnock will play a half strength team, it’s still Cardiff City to me and that’s all that matters. What annoys me is if we were playing Man City or the like it would be a sell out. :ayatollah:
