a midfield of bamba and ralls with patterson on the wing is pretty shocking.

having said that it cant fare any worse than recent results

This is what I thought it's make shift. Although I think bamba is good in that role the team looks very unbalanced and Patterson was terrible against Bristol in midfield.

Hope I'm proved wrong, but that team looks terrible! Just looks like a team generated from panic and lack of ideas.

I'm actually happy with it. Apart from Connolly. Patterson better going forward than defending. Bamba will play a CDM role. So giving really a 3 CM system drifting wide.

That looks an absolutely horrendous team. No legs there at all with Ralls having to do everything himself in the middle! I assume Bamba will be sitting in front of the back 4. I think we will line up like this:

GK Murphy

LB Bennett
CB Connolly
CB Manga
RB Peltier

DM Bamba

LM Hoilett
CM Ralls (the poor bugger)
RM Paterson

ST Zohore
ST Healey

If this comes off, Warnock will be a genius. I didn't like the line up at Middlesbrough and we won, so hopefully the same will happen today!

For me not starting Lee Tomlin, is a massive mystery? ?

Warnock paid a lot of money for Tomlin, but hardly plays him?

Don't think it's the game for Tomlin Annis. Loftus Road always seems the smallest pitch in the league to me and nobody ever seems to have any time on the ball. It always seems to be take one touch and play it before you get closed down.

I don't like the team today, but Warnock knows Loftus Road and he knows how to get results at this ground. It seems Bamba has been brought into the midfield to physically dominate the battle in what will be a congested centre.

Going back to Tomlin, I know what you're saying. He isn't fit enough to last a full game when he's selected in a game which we think will suit him and when it's a scrap like today, Tomlin is no good for that either. Wouldn't surprise me if he's offloaded this January to be honest.

Tomlin should be playing. One midfielder picked!
Hope Warnock proves me wrong, but this looks like going for a 0-0, or sneaking a Bamba header in on the 90th minute.

What do you mean Ralls the poor bugger ??

The last game Ralls was dreadful, chickens out of 50/50 tackles all the time. Bamba will be the main man in midfield cutting out passes and winning the ball back.

Ross, I don't doubt Warnock one bit in knowing what he's doing :thumbright: But 5 months later Lee Tomlin still can't keep a regular place?

Given our recent (results) form and injury/fatigue lists, I'm actually in support of that team line-up and it will be interesting if they can make it for on the field

Is Tomin injured or just tired? Thought he'd be on the bench in case it needs a change, as Neil Warnock will be desperate (as we are) to beat his old club...

May just be the turnaround we need before the newbies come in! :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Re: BIG CHANGES AS PROMISED: “ CARDIFF CITY TEAM TODAY “

We totally waste the talents of the likes of Tomlin and Zohore by wellying the ball all the time. Play it to Tomlin's feet and the channels or over the defence for Big Ken. It's not blydi Tomlin's fault, it's Warnock's tactics.

I'm really happy to see Healey get a chance - he could be the poacher we need and gives Warnock chance to have a proper look at him & Zohore as a partnership, hopefully over 90 minutes :bluescarf: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

I couldn't fault Ralls for effort last game. The only player I was annoyed with was Zohore for his lack of effort. Well Zohore is now on a compact pitch where it will be fast and frantic with challenges flying into him from everywhere. Time for him to man up and bully the defenders back. Hopefully, Rhys Healey putting in another whole hearted display will encourage Zohore to actually move today.

I agree gives a chance for some to make their names and kick up the ass for the under performers, it will be interesting to see how this pans out. :bluescarf: :ayatollah:

This is a scary lineup.

Bamba midfield is a risk like it was at Preston.

Zorhore and Healey up front together not too sure about that.

It’s a back 3 no bamba in mid

At the start of the season I thought LT would be an automatic starter. As the season has progressed I now accept his best role is as an impact sub if we need to change the game.

He is clearly unfit but I'm a big fan of his style. Hopefully we can get him fit and on the pitch more often.

So Gents when is the right game for Lee Tomlin?

Warnock's masterplan was to play Peltier in the centre of midfield :o :o

If he's not fit now what can possibly be done to get him fit that's not been done already?

What doesn't work in Tomlin's favour is we are not a footballing team and don't play to his strengths. If we kept possession and constantly fed Tomlin the ball, he would be a different player. Have we played a game this season where we've had more possession that the opposition yet?

99% of our games have involved us chasing the ball and using our high pressing tactics to unsettle the opposition to get on the front foot. Tomlin isn't suited to these tactics. When we do have possession, we get it forward as quickly as possible, which bypasses Tomlin. I'm beginning to wonder if Tomlin would be better suited out wide left in more space and cutting in, similar to the role Adel Taarabt played for QPR.

Coincidentally, they're just talking about Pogba's performance against Everton in a wide left role tonight, where he was able to play with a lot more freedom and was much more effective. Of course, this would mean sacrificing Hoilett or Mendez-Laing, but I think it would allow Tomlin to play with more freedom without as many defensive duties and he could be more effective.

What frustrates me is Warnock got Taarabt playing the best football of his career, so why can't he do the same with Tomlin? Tomlin has already shown he can do it at this level with Peterborough and Bristol City, plus getting promotion with Middlesbrough.

Should the out of form Mendez-Laing be rested, Hoilett switch to the right and Tomlin come in down the left in a free role, or would that leave our left back too exposed? This change would put extra responsibility on Ralls to cover our left back if Tomlin can't get back to cover in time.

It worked with Taarabt at QPR because Warnock had experienced leaders like Shaun Derry in the midfield, plus Alejandro Faurlin's engine and the experienced Clint Hill locking up the left side behind Taarabt. Unfortunately, I don't think we have the players who can tactically read the game like a Shaun Derry or Clint Hill. I think this is one of the reasons why Warnock says he wants a midfield general this month. I think without Gunnarsson or Bamba in the holding midfield role, Warnock is reluctant to play Tomlin as he doesn't think he has a solid shield to cover behind him.
