Mendez-Laing needs to get his mojo back

By Tom Coleman

The winger raced out of the blocks this season with a series of blistering performances. A sumptuous showing at leaders Wolves was arguably his biggest highlight during an August that saw him named the Championship's Player of the Month.

But Mendez-Laing has struggled to hit those heights recently and looked a shell of his former self during the disappointing defeat to Preston.

Not only have the wonder goals dried up, but Mendez-Laing is also having trouble getting beyond full-backs at the moment.

Is he tired after playing in most of Cardiff's 25 matches? Does he need a rest, with Kadeem Harris edging closer to a return?

Whatever it is, Mendez-Laing does need to rediscover his mojo. He had us transfixed with his dazzling form in the opening months of the season, with pace and power to burn down the wing.

It is perhaps no coincidence that with Mendez-Laing's own dip in form that Cardiff's fortunes have also taken a turn for the worse.

There's nothing like a goal, or a dazzling run past two or three defenders, to energise a winger. Hopefully it happens for Mendez-Laing again soon.

Just needs to relax and not try too hard, beginning of the season he just came out and did what was natural, now he appears to overthinking it. Just go and enjoy yourself Mendez and it will come.

calm down, probably needs a rest, xmas time it is literally Saturday Tuesday, then it goes, 23rd, boxing day, then Saturday, they play non stop, we have a smallish squad, just need a rest, recovery. when your tired physically and mentally your performance drops a bit because you just cant seem to get the extra 10% you need

I agree
I’m sure he’ll be fine. Tbf he has shown flashes in some of the games and a good rest should see him come back all guns blazing.

I honestly think we don't make the most of NML. His pace is blistering and my game plan (especially at home) would be to work most of our forward play down the right hand side. We seem to prefer the ball up to Zohore (or main striker) or Hoillet rather than NML.

I would also play Patterson behind him giving us a turbo charged right flank.
