Cardiff City injury and transfer update as Neil Warnock clarifies Liam Feeney's future ahead of January window opening

Neil Warnock:
"I'm going to have a meeting with the board and recommend two or three players that I have lined up and I hope they support me in that respect."

Liam Feeney will be eligible to play what may prove his final Cardiff City game against Queens Park Rangers on New Year's Day, though Neil Warnock admitted there is a chance the winger's loan could be extended.

The Bluebirds boss also delivered positive news on Craig Bryson's injury ahead of the Loftus Road clash but he is unsure when Joe Bennett will return.

Neil Warnock:

"Liam has done alright," he said.

"I'm going to have a chat with him over the next couple of days and see where we are with him."

"We have a couple of players lined up and should be here for our next league game." Said Warnock

He revealed Bryson could return to face QPR but is still chasing an extra midfielder. Joe Ralls and Loic Damour were swamped by Preston's three-man midfield as a scrappy contest unfolded at Cardiff City Stadium.

"We saw against Fulham that we're short in midfield but we've only got the two lads fit," Warnock added.

"So we can't criticise them too much. Rallsy's doing the best he can, Loic is working hard, it's just that bit of thought upstairs.

"We lost Bryson and Bennett. We'd already lost Gunnarsson and Morrison, Zohore's just coming back — we've been absolutely battered, haven't we?

"The injuries are serious enough for them to miss a game or two. Bennett has gone for a scan so I won't know yet the situation.

"We knew if Bryson played, he wouldn't play Monday, so we think we might get a game out of him on Monday. We'll play it by ear but it's an awkward one that'll take time to heal."

Warnock added: "It's a very cruel game at times and when I see the lads who are missing — and we can't sign five lads in January — we've just got to get one or two back fit and regroup.

"They've hit a brick wall some of them. You can't fault them, they've given me everything. We've lost player after player and this has been a tough week for us.

"I'm going to have a meeting with the board and recommend two or three players that I have lined up and I hope they support me in that respect."

I wouldn't fault Neil Warnock if he took the opportunity to give the regulars in his team a few days off after QPR and tell them to go relax somewhere with their families :thumbright:

He could then use the (still winnable) FA Cup game to give the others a run out and get them up to some sort of match pace in preparation for the coming weeks/months

I'll be at the FA Cup game regardless, as I love any kind of competitive game but I'll fully understand if the team that plays is nowhere near the one the will play in the championship either side of it! :ayatollah: :bluescarf:

Chris, I love the FACUP games and City have put very cheap tickets on sale :thumbright: :thumbright:

I said last week that Warnock had lined his players up already, min 2, maybe 3 players depends on Tan's backing.

Plus I have been told Warnock has to get a couple of players of the wage bill as well.

Warnock deserves a medal to have kept City in the Top 3 for 5 months with the small amount of financial backing he's had compared to the other clubs :thumbright: :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

I thought they could sign and play on the first jan but thinking of it it’s pushing it in fairness

I remember Robin Friday making his debut on the 01/01/1977,,,, it could be done over forty years ago?

Rick, Who knows? in them days they were not so everything had to be to the letter.

I might be wrong, but I was told two players before next Friday that Warnock had already spoken to etc and Warnock virtually confirms this.

It would be fantastic if sorted on New Years Day before 12pm,but I would be shocked.

Personally I stand by its a No.

There was NO transfer window 40 years ago. The "snowflake" generation intoduced it in 2002!

Annis, I fully agree and anyone 'knocking' Neil Warnock has obviously had their heads buried in the sand for the last three or four years, if they don't think the guy has worked relative miracles! :thumbright:

Also great news if Vincent Tan has given him the go ahead to sign a couple of players early into the transfer window. I guess the positive sign is that he (Tan) was here for a few days in the last week and surely must have had discussions with the manager about continuing the promotion push. I'd rather it not have happened but maybe (just maybe) the two home losses will have convinced the owner that the squad really does need a boost!

The transfer window opens at midnight on the first of January

Deals can be agreed on the day and sent to authorities before that time, and some paperwork can even be concluded the next day.

I think the way we are playing the media is fantastic.

Warnock comes out and says he hasn't got much to spend, Tan also doing interviews saying the same and how much previous managers have wasted (let's not go there!)

To the outside agents it signals Cardiff don't have a lot to spend.

So hopefully we can get some deals done for reasonable prices and not the crazy "van dyk" prices of the premier league.

I wonder if we will see an unexpected departure for a reasonable fee, which NW could 're invest ?

I saw today that even deals done in advance, like the van Dijk move to Liverpool, mean that they can’t actually play until 2nd January.

And when Robin Friday played on 1st January 40 years ago there basically wasn’t a transfer window, as transfers could take place any time in the whole season up to the third week in March!

NW please don't keep Feeny as he gives us nothing, use his wages to bring someone in who will have an affect on the game.
