Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins says "his biggest regret," is not re-hiring former boss Brendan Rodgers in 2016 when the club instead renewed the contract of Francesco Guidolin.
Jenkins also confirmed he may step down at the end of this season with fans protesting his role at the club.
But Jenkins has denied claims his position is currently "untenable" with Swansea bottom of the Premier League.
But he said: "I think if we continue as we are, yes it will be," [untenable].
In a wide-ranging interview Jenkins confirmed that whatever the club's fate, he would consider his position at the end of the season.
Jenkins also revealed:
- How he feels the club should have dismissed boss Paul Clement earlier
- He does not think American investors Jason Levien and Steven Kaplan deserve criticism
- Confirmed manager Carlos Carvalhal would have money to spend in the January transfer window, but only the profits from player sales in the summer
- Admitted he could resign at the end of the season regardless of how Swansea fare in the remainder of the campaign
Jenkins, 54, took the Swans' chairman's role 15 years ago and has faced verbal abuse from a section of supporters due to the team's poor form and discontent over the way he and other shareholders handled the American takeover in 2016.
He said: "I have to take responsibility. I cannot not take responsibility. There are reasons, but I think probably a lot of people don't want to listen to the reasons because they want to see action and they want to see the team doing well.
"So yes I take responsibility for it."
Jenkins confirmed that his position will be untenable if the Premier League's bottom-placed club do not begin to improve.
"I don't totally agree my position is how they [fans] say it is [untenable]. I think if we continue as we are, yes it will be.
"I don't disagree with that. If we continue on this path of hardly winning football games, yes, I have no doubt it is."
Asked if he would think of resigning at the end of this season anyway, he confirmed: "I think so yes."
"It is not about the abuse," he said.
"But I do a job and I have some pride in what we have done, so obviously if that does not come to that level and I feel it is not right or we are not hitting those levels or cannot hit those levels again, of course I will feel like that. I think that is understandable."
