WARNOCK: "PLAYERS WILL BE SOLD INCLUDING / IF "

" Cardiff City could sell Joe Ralls in the summer, if we don't get promoted "

Thursday 28th December 2017

HITC /Media Wales/ Football League

Neil Warnock:
"Middlesbrough spent £40million on their strikers and we're talking about a net £1.5million spend!

In terms of outgoings from the Welsh capital in January, Anthony Pilkington is expected to leave while Liam Feeney's loan deal is up for expiry.

Gunnarsson will stay to the end of the season until his contract expires , while Warnock admitted midfield dynamo Ralls could depart in the summer if Cardiff fail to reach the Premier League.

Warnock said: "the club wouldn't stand in the way of players if we don't get promoted and some will be sold — like the in-form Ralls — who are ready to make the step up."

"People will be looking at Rallsy," Warnock admitted.

"Even though he's only a young lad he's got an old head on a young body and young legs.

"He's a credit to the way he's come through and improves all the time. But we won't have to sell anyone like that until the summer

"Then obviously in the summer if we don't get to the promised land and you get good offers for players like Ralls... you've got to think about that if it's their career.

"He's at a stage where he's improving all the time and he's ready for the Premier League — and there might be one or two like that."

Cardiff's promotion rivals are expected to strengthen in January. Big-spending Middlesbrough will support new boss Tony Pulis with fresh transfer funds while table-topping Wolves are expected to flex their financial muscles once again.

But Warnock is adamant Cardiff — albeit with a limited budget — can compete and remain in the promotion mix. Bristol City and Wolves face each other this weekend, giving Cardiff a chance to surge back into the top two.

He added: "For all the money that clubs have spent, you can only have 11 players on the pitch.

"It's nice to have money and nice to go and buy a particular player. But are they any better than they were before? Sometimes it can disrupt a club. Why would Wolves want to upset their squad? That's up to them.

"Middlesbrough spent £40million on their strikers and we're talking about a net £1.5million spend!

"A two-goal difference off second in the division in January? I'm bloody happy. Even if we lose four or five. So what? Then we'll bounce back and win five or six."

Ralls, for his own part, is open to the idea of new signings, who could help Warnock's promotion bid get over the line.

He added: "I wouldn't be shocked either way. If the manager thinks we need to strengthen, I'm sure he'll go and do that. It can only benefit the team."

So if we miss promotion automatically and play-offs does that mean we become a selling club?

Where does that us for the future?

With Neil Warnock still in charge, it would mean an improved squad with the new players he could bring in with any monies produced from sales! ;)

Let's hope it doesn't come to that and the club go up and avoid the debate! :thumbright: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

there will be a huge drop in revenue next season as the parachute payments end so players leaving is inevitable if we dont go up.

NW knows the score regarding selling ect but he's still willing to negotiate a new contract regardless of where we are next season!

That’s true and I’m sure there are a few more we’ve managed to keep over the years including Whitts but if the price is right they’ll go like Ralls, as stated, and no different to nearly all clubs especially in our position.

Agree with that but surely it shouldn't be like that if as many say we are "big club"

Mate, whoever says we are a big club are wrong.
I’m afraid we’re not, and never have been.
