9 0ut 10 0f those clubs are the ones in our division who have historically spent the most seasons in the top flight.only Norwich buck that trend seems to prove that your clubs all time history has a big effect on current support.

Growing up in the 80’s all the top 10 were division 1 clubs or very close, some small ones in the premier league at the moment that’s for sure

But in recent years, We've had more success than Sheffield United,Leeds, Forest, Wolves, Derby & Sheffield Wednesday.

Clubs like Sheffield United have just spent Six years in the lower divisions and yet their support increases.

I will say it again City should of at least had 25,000 crowds with the success we have had this season alone,Top 3 for 5 months, undefeated at home till Boxing Day and some of the Cheapest ticket prices in Football, even lower than many lower division clubs.

We just had our lowest Boxing Day crowd for over many many years.

So why so low?

" CARDIFF CITY HOME CROWDS ON BOXING DAY "

2009 v Plymouth 24,010

2010 v Coventry 24,595

2012 v Crystal Palace 26,098

2013 v Southampton 27,929

2017 v Fulham 21,662

Rem the latest excuses for Boxing Day was, It rained,No transport, to much traffic & fans will return in January. Surely its the same for other Football Clubs?

It was 3pm not live on Sky, usual excuse.

Just an an example Wolves have sold 3,600 tickets to got Bristol City and its live on Sky at 5:30pm. We could not sell out yet again for our local derby game.

My point is, why make excuses about our crowds, the truth is they are not there anymore.

Fans will say times have changed and keep saying it and fans have other things to do instead of football, surely times have changed for the rest of the UK?

even Norwich have spent 25 years in the top flight during my time watching football . and have had 3rd, 4th and 5th placed finishes.
i dont just think its prem seasons though, its the other side of the coin 4th division..not just the once but 4 times and every time we got out it was just to slip back down again..god knows how many just gave up.

Goats, Wolves and Sheffield United we use to play regularly in the Old Division 2, Div 3 & Div 4 and have some great times, we would take big followings to these clubs.

I rem playing Sheffield Wednesday as well quite a few times in the Old Division 2.

These 4 clubs use to get Cardiff fans to turn out big away :thumbright: :bluebird:

Boro had some terrible times their crowds went as low as 5,000, ground closed, bankruptcy.

Clubs like Sheffield United have just spent Six years in the lower divisions and yet their support increases.

Yes I agree with you .personally I think our support is shocking .but the stats seem to show "all time " history is a big factor on current support.look at the wurzels 23000 boxing day poor .all time history only 9 seasons in top flight.

Re: ' The Current Top Ten Best Supported Championship Clubs

Thu Dec 28, 2017 5:30 pm

Because historically Sheffield Utd have given their fans 60 seasons in the top flight compared to our 16.

Skip, We had in the 1950's/60's We could get 40,000-50,000 Crowds.

We had v Hereford 35,000 plus home crowd.

We got 18,000 under Eddie May at home and took 5,000 plus crowds away in the lower divisions.

We use to take to Colchester,Northampton, Luton etc 1,500 fans.

We use to take 4,000 to Reading etc.

It shows we can get the Support :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

All correct.ok it must just be a coincidence that the best supported clubs are the ones who have spent the most seasons in the top flight and even if they haven't been there for years.

i didnt realise the connection myself until about a year ago but yes the more you study it the more obvious it becomes..its long term far more than short term.
i have to add though i am disappointed in the crowds we are getting..

Same way we managed to take all those supporters to wembley. Newcastle vs Luton is a massive day out for them.

So going to Newcastle is like going to Wembley?

I was waiting for that.

How come Luton take regularly 1,500 in League 2 (Div4) ? ?

They take 1,000 away fans on 300 /400 / 500 mile round trips.

Please Answer?

Plus how come we only took 1,290 fans away to Burnley last away match of the season before going up to the Premier League , Pay on the day/No Restrictions & our allocation was 3,500? ? ?

We were offered 3,000 tickets for Chelsea Away in the Premier League, but could only sell 1,500, How Come?

Please Answer?

so we didnt sell out Chelsea?
there was hells bells over the Chelsea game..the allocation was cut to 1500 by the police..our club put a criteria of 6 aways from the previous season..and even though only 1300 that had done the required 6 { myself included } many failed to get a ticket because of the carve up....
Burnley...was a massive disappointment...but our away support wasnt great for a few years before that.including not selling out for a semi at selhurst park.

the Chelsea game and the ticket fiasco is in an old thread titled...be careful what you wish for.
